Another thought: I have not seen this setting in person, since it was ordered in. Is it my imagination, or does this setting have a slight knife edge style to it? I didn''t pick that up in the pictures from the Unique Settings website. If so, I think that looks pretty, a cross between a knife edge and a cathedral. I''ll find out soon enough.

I like the subtle knife edge--lovely ring! She will love it! Please post handshots.

I got the ring! Beautiful! I don''t have any pictures for now, but hopefully I will soon. The knife edge is there, and it looks very nice.

Great stone (that''s a killer princess ASET!) and beautiful setting. We need pics once it arrives!

Sorry for the lack of updates.

I proposed, and she said yes!!! It's been a bit of a whirlwind since then. The bottom line though is that though the setting was very pretty, it wasn't exactly what she had in mind. It was very close, but... the taper at the bottom of the shank was too thin for her taste, and she had a change of heart when it came to side stones.

I actually emailed Chris at Whiteflash on Saturday, which was the last day of our observation period, to tell them we wanted to consider some other settings. He was very helpful, and didn't so much as balk at the request. Since my original setting was special ordered and could not be returned to the manufacturer, they did charge a restocking fee, which was a bit of a bummer, but is understandable. I know a lot of guys out there end up in the same situation as me and have to outright buy two different settings in the end.

They set us up for an appointment today with Jamie, and we both came in to look at a couple of settings in person. They typically cast the settings to order, so it's not guaranteed that they will have any particular setting you want to see on hand. They had two of the settings we wanted to see, but the third one wasn't in stock.

We decided on this one, and I went ahead and ordered the matching wedding band too. I think it's going to be stunning! My fiancee was originally a bit apprehensive about having too much flash, but I think after wearing the solitaire around for a week, the bling bug bit her! With any luck, we'll have it by Friday.

I want to thank Chris, Vera, Bob, Debi, Jamie, Lesley, Priscilla, Tim, Shandel, and Allan at Whiteflash. I think this is everyone I contacted or dealt with there. They were all a great help.

Congrats on your engagement!

Also, good for you for letting her voice her opinion on the ring. I''ve heard so many women settle for a setting that is less than perfect because they don''t want to offend their FI. It does sound like you guys picked out your perfect setting.

That was pretty much our situation. Over the course of the week she had the ring, she made a couple of comments that indicated to me it wasn't entirely perfect, but she would dismiss it with "I just have to get used to it", probably for the same reasons you said, not so much offense, but she never wants to make a fuss, or draw attention to herself, and I had to make the point that the e-ring is all about what she wants, and nobody else, and she really shouldn't compromise. I really had to egg her on to get her to the point where she would admit she wanted something different.

In the end, I am relieved that we changed it out. I tend to be a stickler at times, and it would have bothered me to no end if she stuck with something that wasn't exactly right.

good choice
