Well, I had some unpleasant excitement this morning. I was doing some tidying in the bedroom, and putting the jewelry I wore yesterday away in my jewelry box. 20240117_210803-EDIT.jpg

The drawers are like sliding trays, and I must have tugged with a little too much enthusiasm, because the tray with all my necklaces and pendants went flying! I squealed, the cats when flying out of the room, and I froze where I was, not wanting to step on anything.

Ok, took a breath. Picked up the tray, and it's intact. No damage. That's good! Then I started picking up the more delicate pieces, checking everything to make sure there's no damage. Emerald pendant - check! Cameo - check! Antique coral pendant - check! (Huge exhale with that one.)

Hey, wait a second. Since when do I have a loose pear diamond? I know I have a lot of loosies, but they all live together in a box, in their GIA sleeves. So what's this??
Ummmm.....

Looks like the stone popped right out of the setting. :oops2: No apparent damage to the stone, thank goodness. I don't really understand how this happened, but now I realize I have a couple of decisions to make.

1. Do I take it over to GIA and have it graded while it's loose? I think probably yes. This pendant was the first "real" piece of jewelry I ever bought. I got it from I Do Now I Don't, back before it became a huge scam. The seller included an appraisal (from 2002) that called it a 0.98ct F SI2 with moderately strong fluorescence. So I think, to satisfy my curiosity, I need to have it graded. Hopefully GIA doesn't call it an I1, but I wouldn't really care if they did. It's ridiculously white and wonderfully sparkly, so the grade wouldn't dim my enthusiasm for it.

2. Do I get it a new dress? Folks, I'm a lazy bling fan. I've never done a custom project before (as evidenced by the aforementioned cache of loose diamonds). I don't love the rabbit ear basket setting, but it's functional, and lets a lot of light into the stone. Do I just have my jeweler pop it back in and call it a day, or do I add this to my laundry list of projects?

What to do, what to do. In the meantime, I'm down a trusty diamond pendant, so I'm hoping nothing "accidentally" ends up in my shopping cart.
