I have in my head the ideas of dresses that I would like, but they don''t exist or are unobtainable in the UK.

I had a lightbulb moment this afternoon as I realised that the dress I want is basically inspired by Christian Dior''s New Look.

I posted this dream dress about a month ago

and then have been admiring this dress Dress is on bride called Jo. The designer is too far away for me to be able to work with though. I also love Grace Kelly''s wedding dress and loads of other 40s/50s dresses.

Then I remembered that I went to an exhibition at the V&A called the Golden Age of Couture. I walked around the exhibition and fell in love with all the dresses. Anyway, I''ve ordered the book that goes with the exhibition and am going to think about getting somebody to make me a dress. My wedding is not until exactly 52 weeks today but I am going to start the brain factory going!

Good luck! I hope you are able to find someone reasonable! And that dress is absolutely gorgeous

you should keep checking this since you have time!!

I was going to suggest dressmaker, but it seems you are already on the ball with this.

I was contemplating having a dress made myself as I initially was going to go with something gothic inspired but bridal looking n red and black. Eventually I ended up purchasing a lovely Sincerity ivory gown!

Whereabouts in the UK are you?

MM I''m in Manchester. Are you an English girl too?

I sure am Sapphire. I am at the other end of the country. Poole!

I spent half my life in "lovely" Bolton though!

Can you find anyone who carries Justin Alexander? Their couture line has several that are similar. My favorite is style number 9552!

I agree, that''s one gorgeous dress. Why not do as Pandora did, and have your dream dress made for you? You have the time to get it done.

Pandora had one made? Hmmm... I wonder who by? I know she doesn''t live that far away from me! I will have to go back and look for wedding pics. Did she post them on here?

That dress reminds me of the beautiful Anne Barge dress Gwennie loves

The dress is very reminisciant of her style

Yay- Anne Barge- another designer that I can't get in the UK. Grrrrhhhhhhhh..... Stupid small tiny island!

Which is the dress btw the link just sends me to the AB homepage

Ditto HollyS and merrymunky -- look into getting a custom-made dress! I don''t think you''re limited to designers that specialize in wedding dresses, either. This is a fairly straight-forward design that many many talented seamstresses would be able to create for you, as long as they have experience with gown construction. (Vogue has some patterns that are similar and could serve as a starting point.)

are you sure you can''t get anne barge? She is a pretty small designer. I wonder if you call her Atlanta store, if they could work something out. I guess you wouldn''t be able to try on the dresses, but if you knew which style you wanted, I bet you could still place an order with her and just have it shipped to the UK. You would have to find someone to measure you and to do the alterations. The Atlanta store is amazing! Some of the best customer service ever. And they will make sure the dress really fits your body. I''m chesty and instead of just adding inches around the bust, they actually change the cup size in the dress so that "the girls" really fit in the dress the way they are supposed to. I ended up falling in love with a Monique Lhuiller, and so didn''t get the Anne Barge, but I recommend the store to everyone.

I am sure I could, but its such an important dress, that I wouldn''t want to risk it. There are so many things that could go wrong with shipping etc and what if I ended up stuck with a dress that I hated?

The only dress I can think of thats kind of similar is this one by Kenneth Pool: http://kennethpool.com/gallery/071207/k298.shtml

I am sure they could do it with a hint of color if you want it exactly like the dress you posted.

Its a similar concept, not spot on though. But many designers will do modifications.

Saphire they do stock that dress in the UK thanks to the help of another PSer D2B and a little chance you can find that dress here
