Why is this pink diamond $46,000?

I guess because color is king. And it's graded Fancy, and over 1/2 ct, even without a clarity grading. Beats me; I wouldn't pay 46 grand for it, but maybe one of our colored diamond mavens can explain.

Not for me, as icy pinks and RBs do not tickle my fancy.

For that price I can get a very nice EC around 3ct in E/F, VS1/2 range! :naughty:

DK :))

I would definitely not pay anything close to $46,000 for that! To my eyes it doesn't even look that pink, but I tend to think that about most FCDs, except the ones that are phenomenally expensive. (Like this one, where they don't even show the price! http://www.fancydiamonds.net/view_diamonds/5071.htm)

The photo display tool on the website, however, is amazing!

Because jewelers can charge whatever they want on a gem. You can charge $10,000/carat on a CZ and it's not against the law. Also with the recent fancy pink auctions going at record pricing, that jeweler is probably taking advantage of the buzz in the air about these stones.

Personally, I wouldn't pay that for the stone. I think it's worth about $10K tops, and even then, all that carbon would bug me. I think inclusions are more readily accepted in FCD's, but black spots are some of the most noticeable and worst inclusions there are.

Hi,

How Ugly, Thats beyond ridiculous. I think James Allen is showing poor judgement here. Way too much.

I have no idea why that is $46,000. That is one peppery pink diamond.

I know color is king, but I thought so much carbon would reduce the price a lot....or does it mean if it didn't have carbon it would be much much higher? And this is the "dinged" price? Wow...... Anyway, I was curious. Maybe the carbon isn't that visible at arm's length IRL and that's why? Oh, well, glad to know it's not just me. :Up_to_something:

I don't know. I get that it's a rare colored tint, but you have to factor in how included it is. It is a rare kind of buyer who will appreciate a stone like that.

Perhaps it's a typo?

Actually neither Leibish nor Langerman has a real comparable to that diamond. In fact neither has any purple-pink in that size.

I think that answers the question. You want that color, that size? You pay JA's price. The end.

I take that back--this one is reasonably close.

Even that one is an Intense. I think 10-15k would be a fair price. I know JA doesn't own the diamonds listed on their site and probably can't influence the price too much (or at all), however they can decide what to list. Seems overboard.

I think they are degrading their entire collection by showing that awful diamond.

It is a joke, and it looks like they don't know the difference between a good colored diamond and a bad one. :nono:

Leibish has really nice ones for less than half that price, as ChristineRose posted.

I tried to convince myself that the JA color was nicer, but really you can't tell on the monitor.

The Leibish one is an I2 and it seems to have some damage on the girdle. But one of the facets on the JA one looks chipped, or maybe they cut it that way on purpose to save weight. Again, you can't really tell.

Even on Leibish the prices go all over the place for pinks. There's so few of them and lots of them would be tossed out if they weren't pink.
