Hopefully the link works. I mean it is a gorgeous stone but I feel like I have seen others that are fairly close, maybe a little lower color grade that are much less even with some of the vendors that are on the pricier side. And this is a solitaire setting so nothing extravagant there. Why so much more expensive?

It seems like a wacky price to me. I suppose they justify it with the H color. What’s an MRB with those specs going for these days?

I am glad I am not the only one who thought it was a crazy price. I am not educated as to modern stone pricing but I guess it would be interesting to research. I can't imagine a 2.6 ct MRB is 46000. I guess if you allow 1000 for that solitaire setting 45000 but that is still insane I think.

Edited to add- looks like on blue nile a 2.5-2.6 round with their excellent cut H VS1 ranges from 32500 to 38000

Off topic but since I know you and I are both transitional people did you see the one Alex Park posted today? Wow.

Took a very quick look, found two, 39,167 and 38,040.

Yes, that seller has beautiful pieces but the prices are high.

Thank you you are likely much more educated than I am about what a premium MRB would be for a price comparison.

I know elongated old mines command a premium also but 46000 with a simple solitaire setting seemed insane. It doesn't look like their bench work is anything extraordinary either.

I drool over some of their pieces but would never purchase from them because their prices are ridiculous.

Yeah I wondered if I was just missing something about this stone which is why I wanted to ask here but it seems that they really are just crazy overpriced on this one.

I just took a very quick look to get an idea, there are ranges in pricing and I just found two in the higher range.

I’m not saying it’s a fair price or anything, but when you are talking about that stratosphere of luxury and rarity, seems you can ask whatever you like. It’s not like people can shop around much!

Yeah you have a point, I just can't see paying that price for it but someone else totally may and they would be getting a really nice stone.

Well it sounds like you and I are not in the financial bracket where 50k is chump change! I guess for some it is and they won’t be deal shopping. Seems like that company must tailor to that crowd.

Boy I sure am glad I bought my “large” (small by today’s standards lol) diamond 10 years ago! I am pretty much priced out of the market now.

I don't know antique cuts' prices at all, but I do keep up with super ideal MRBs, and I don't think that price is particularly high for a 2.6-ish H VS1. It's a little high, but not super high.

For example, here's a 2.5 ct F VS1 for $54K. (I couldn't find an H at this moment to compare).

Maybe it's not and I guess they'd have to be selling at their prices in order to keep pricing that way and stay in business, they just seem high when compared to other old cut vendors.

OWD for example has a 2.43 omc I VS1 priced at 33500, maybe there is something else about this one other than it's a color grade higher and a little more carat weight that justifies the additional 12500-13000?

Like I said I don't know anything about antique cuts, I was only commenting on MRB pricing.

Someday, when my wallet stops screaming in pain from my past couple year's MRB purchases, :lol-2: I'd absolutely love to learn all about the old cuts! They are gorgeous!

Oh wow I guess it is a gift from the universe that I am not into MRBs because I would be so priced out of the market. I am so uneducated about them.

I feel like the old cut pricing can sometimes be all over the place. It just seems AB is really high priced. I have also reached out to them before and while others like OWD seem to be willing to somewhat negotiate price AB will not. But again they have beautiful pieces and people are buying from them.

Maybe one day you will be an old cut convert!!

Yeah I got some prices from OWD in the last few months, not on that particular stone I mentioned above because I am not committed to that high a color grade. But it seems the pricing difference is greater than would be explained by the color grade alone. Of course there was a difference in the OWD pricing between their I colored stone and their lower colored stones but the jump to the AB pricing is significant.
