Just bought a pair of these Theory wide legged pants. Do you all think these wide legs will take off for fall? Or is it just a trendy look? After all, we just got use to skinny legs last year.

It''s not too late for me to take them back. Opinions anyone?

supposedly wide legs are all the rage for fall, along with skinny pants and colored pants (yak). i just got some wide leg trouser jeans from Joe''s that i love. and i plan to get a pair of dress pants kind of like those as well...funny thing is i have some black soft wool blend ones from like 5 years ago that are soft and kind of swingy, i think from Nanette Lepore, that have large wide cuffed legs and i love them so i hung onto them, and now im like woo hoo they are back. Have to get them taken in a bit but otherwise, score.

heehee..wide legs totally remind me of early highschool...loved it back then, it was hard for me to move on to flares! i did, but hung on to my wide leg trousers and now they''re back!

i like the wide leg look with a more structred or heavier fabric, like wool or tweed, a slightler straighter leg with less of a swoop than the one you have pictured, and a cuffed bottom is preferred over non-cuffed. i also like detailing like pockets/buttons to help ground the wider leg.

personally, i''m not crazy about the pic...but it may be that the model is wearing it at a very strange length! i like the length to be on the slouchy side. and the material looks flimsy, but it may be due to the length issue. not my preference, but i''d need to see it on you before i really say.

super cute sweater though!!!

Wide leg trousers have to be like all other trends in trousers-- you should only do it if you find a pair which looks flattering on you IMO. If you''re doing it to chase a trend (rather than looking kick-ass in the pair you find), then there''s something to be said for not investing too much money.

As for the photo you provided, I agree with Ginger B''s assessment 100%. Perhaps it''s the model''s pose, but it looks more like a flared leg than wide leg and the length is too short with those shoes.... of course, the true test is how it looks on you!

Thanks gals, appreciate the help!

I love them!! I have several pair. My problem this year...is what shoe/toe to wear with them? I wore elongated square tipped pointy toes last year...But for this year they are saying no pointy toes...what about square toed...or should it be a chunkier round toe?

I agree with GBC the length shown is wrong wrong wrong. It makes them swing bottoms...not good.

I have several pair of widelegs that I wear fall/winter...one in camel with pink lining and pink topstitching that is just barely noticeable but still a feminine touch to a really conservative look in addition to the wideleg sophistication, one in solid black wool crepe, and I just got another pair in a black that are cuffed and a little higher-waisted (but not up to my belly button) that have a very subtle pinstripe in a dark berry color and one in ivory, I just love them and can''t wait to break them out! I''m a big fan of the wideleg trouser when it''s worn right or flattering on someone''s figure. Definitely have to have a substantial heel with them, imo, and round toe or pointy toe works in my book.

I agree with the above, you gotta have the correct fit and all lines need to flow. Also, the model needs to either have a shorter heel or a longer inseam, omg those look like floods or highwaters on her, I hate that about print modeling, sometimes they make the clothes look terrible due to lack of proportions.

Monnie, I love the sound of your camel ones. I bet they are so cute on with that pink. Be still my heart.

Hee hee, the pink stitching is so well done, and it''s topstitching right down the outside seam of the pant and it''s a pale enough pink that you really would have to look for it, or be wearing the pants to notice. But it''s nice detailing and I actually got them from the Gap a couple years ago. I just love that they are lined, wool bothers my skin a bit because I get so dry in the winter, so to have a little layer of cheap ol'' acetate in between is great. I do love the color combo, though, pink and khaki/camel are one of my favorites. I''m thinking I got those on sale and didn''t pay more than $40 for them, which is great for a classic trouser with a twist that I will have for at least a couple more years! Plus the inseam just happened to work for me which is rarely the case since I''m tall! It was just one of those lucky finds on a random shopping day and I got lucky.

Monnie...me too ...on the height thing. I''m not real tall, but with heels and my leg length I need longer than average. I can always find the perfect fit at Banana. I rarely buy at full price...wait them out!! I am a great hunter in the bush there! I do remember that line from the Gap. I think they also offered baby blue with the kaki? I have a pair of capris from banana that have that top stitch. It is mono color but I love it just the same. Adds just a touch of panache...but with your pink threads...I love it.

I like them. I think about what looks best on me and try to be in style without being silly. Those look great and not toooo weide, which looks costumy to me.

HI:

Bought some on the weekend--got a great pair on sale...but I have to be careful with the wide wide cut as it can be overwhelming and just look sloppy on me. I am wearing mine with 3 in. + heels.

cheers--Sharon
