Will a bigger 5 stone even fit me?

I have a graduated 5 stone ring which I now wear on my middle finger (size 5.5) and as is the nature of DSS, I was wondering if I could maybe increase the size. Either getting a larger center stone or maybe a new bezel setting.

However I’m worried that doing so will mean the ring touches my other fingers when I wear it since the stones basically already take up almost all the space on top of my finger. And I’m not sure if “feeling” my ring on my other fingers will annoy me.

Does anyone have a ring that does that and if so does it bug you? People who have full eternities, does it take getting used to?

Hi @MakingTheGrade -

I have a 7 stone tapered band which stretches around to between the touching fingers and it doesn't bother me at all. However, my end stones are only 17 pts, and I know yours are larger than that, so I'm not sure how irritating you'd find it.

I was thinking tho - would you be interested in upping your center stone and dropping off the side stones and doing a 3 stone ring? Your 2nd and 4th diamonds are the perfect size for, say, a 1.2 - 1.5ct center, and that would look smashing on your sized finger.

I wouldn't do a 5 stone with your current setting, unless you're happy to lose that very even graduation between stones, and I think that balance is the highlight of your current ring.

I think you would have to consider a new design if you wanted to upgrade size. Even if you upgraded the center stone in your current ring, changes would have to be made to the setting to accommodate it. Not sure if the expense would be worth it to increase diamond size marginally. I think the current ring looks beautiful on you!

A three stone ring - as Mrs-b suggests - might be an answer for you to get additional size.

Oh a 3 stone might be a great idea!
Not sure if id miss the current “band” look which I do really love. Hmm. Maybe it’s time to do some browsing of jewelry stores to try things on or get a cz design to wear awhile.

I do have an emerald cut 3 stone with a colored stone center which I love though I wonder if I could get a more “fluid” look with rounds..

Obviously I don't know how many rings you want to own, but if you went with the 3 stone idea, you could save your current end stones and collect a few more of the same size over time and do a 5 stone or 7 stone ring.

Re your EC 3 stone - I think the beauty of an EC is its geometrical nature. A round 3 stone is a much softer look and, as you said, much more fluid and organic.

I forget MTG, what are the dimensions of the stones in your current 5-stone iteration?

.

Haha. How many rings do I want to own.. all of them? :p. Practically speaking though I’m trying to pare things done to a “daily wear” kind of group. I could always set side stones as earrings to give as presents since I myself don’t have my ears pierced.

The center is .92, then .5, then .25

I think your ring looks great the way it is, but I understand DSS. I really love the current proportions.

I have a ring that I had sized down but still extends slightly past my finger on both sides. It doesn't bother me unless someone with a firm grip shakes my hand.

I love the idea of a 3 stone and earrings. I have a 3 stone and wear it a ton as a RHR and as an e-ring for travel. One day I really want a 5 stone similar to yours.

Well, we have that in common too. ;))

Haha I actually don’t wear earrings hence using a pair of diamonds I just got for a bangle. Though if I love the design I might want to make more to stack...

I also think you are at your max width for a 5 stone ring. I like the idea of a three stone with larger center but only on the ring finger.
