Will this sapphire be too dark?

I’m looking for a stone for a RHR project. Initially I was swept up with enthusiasm for a Jedi spinel, but I don’t really wear much red or bright pink so not sure if that would be a wise purchase. I spotted this sapphire, which is a nice size and unheated. I’m just a bit worried it might be really dark when set. Any advice?

I'd have the same reservations as you. This sapphire is for somebody who loves a deep purple, so if you don't love it, then don't but I've.

It says in the description it’s not dark but I’m not sure! I think I’ll pass and wait for something else to come along. So hard buying these things online.

The deeper vivid purple sapphires are lovely and look fabulous in good light but inside at night time they can look almost black.

Are you open to commissioning/custom cutting?

I know Jeff White has a vast inventory of Sapphire roughs in different colours, and may have something suitable.

With any type of CS, what I normally do is to trawl his sold gemstone galleries, find a pic of the colour that I like and ask him if he has something suitable within my budget etc...

DK :))

Gosh, I’m not sure I’d be brave enough! That is a really interesting idea, though, and good advice. I’ll have a look at his site.

As the owner of a too dark saphire ring this puts me off

You have to think about the environment it will be worn in. IMO its medium-dark. I live in a ridiculously sunny area so I would consider it because its such a pretty deep purple. However if you do not, and if you're inside a lot without artificial lighting you should look to get something in the med/med realm.

It is a pretty colour, I agree! But you’re right, I live in a non sunny, often overcast place so I don’t think this stone is right for me.
