I purchased a 1.83 ct J VS1, which, unfortunately, shows way too much body color to me - I guess I'm more color sensitive than I thought. (The emerald cut in my avatar is an I and it doesn't bother me at all, though.) So I'm going to return it and get a new one. Found this, which to me looks perfect, except for the dark crystals on the surface, which I can obviously see under magnification. It's a VS2. Should I be concerned?

Here's the link with a 360° vid:

P.S. It scored 1.5 on the HCA. Spread very good, all other 3 x excellent.

As a GIA VS2, it should be fine. It's a beautiful stone.

Looks like a lovely diamond! By the way, just because the J was too warm, don’t assume you need to go all the way to an E.
Like you, I thought a well cut J would be fine, not color sensitive, yadada, but hated it in person since it looked down right yellow in certain light. To the point, in the size you’re looking at, down to a G should be pretty white, and might help your budget.
If at all possible, before you order another diamond, try to see a few colors in person so you can figure out how color sensitive you truly are.

Seconding the suggestion from @anangel that you could totally go down to a G or H VS2 and get a lot more bang for your budget!

I don't know much about your diamond but it looks like you brought from Blue Nile and they have very good returns! You can judge in person and send it back it not happy :-)

Thanks! I'm from Scandinavia, though, so there aren't that many options to go out and look for diamonds with those specs. I tried, but all they had were horrible "H" stones, which were like 0.5 ct and sooo much browner than my J and like I2 clarity or something, so that didn't help much. :D With larger stones the jewellers here usually just order the stones the customers want and don't keep that many at hand.

I am actually willing to go down to an H, but am a bit concerned abt the color there as well. Prob. would be OK since it's going to be set in rose gold (platinum prongs, though). G would be fine, but there aren't that many nice stones within my price range at Blue Nile (has to be BN bc they are located in Europe as well). I don't really want to compromise on carat either since I'd like it to be 7 mm or over.

Yes, they do, but I have to pay for insurance and shipping, so a return will still cost me ca 150 € (a bit more in dollars), so it's not cheap either. Maybe it's different in the US but here even returning items to BN costs money. :(

@Loveswine can you share the exact parameters you're looking for (budget and specs)? I did a quick browse, and found a few stones on BN that looked really nice.

Oh no! I think it is different in the US. Anyways I think your stone looks beautiful. Did you ask Blue Nile to confirm that it was eye-clean? I have done that on several stones and one VS2 I was interested in was not eye-clean. I highly doubt it's not eye clean, it looks tiny tiny. This stone is so beautiful.

I believe this stone would be eye-clean in most viewing situations. If you can see the inclusions I would think you would have to be
viewing it very up close and know what you are looking for (if you can see them at all). Under normal, everyday viewing situations,
I dont think you would see it.

Thanks! Yes, I asked, but they just said that it's eye clean. However, I suspect that they said it bc it's a VS, not because they've seen it in person. It's ready to ship in January, so it's probably located in the US, whereas the customer service rep was in Ireland.

Thanks! Is the price still visible? That's abt the max that I'm willing to pay give or take 100 €.

Oh yes, sometimes they will say because its a VS2 it will be eye-clean, but if asked they will confirm with the vault its in fact eye-clean. I've spent a lot of time on BN looking for my upgrade...I think you should be good thought. Good luck...it should be very sparkly!

Oh, OK, I'll call them then and ask! Thank you! :)

If it's not too late then no harm in asking, you have to be pushy with them! And why not, you're spending a hefty sum. I'm sure its eye clean but this will give you peace of mind while you wait for your stone.

Thank you so much @yyc_la_signa , they just confirmed that it's eye clean! Called in and went ahead with the return/exchange! Yay, I'm so excited! :D :D
