A few of you read my old thread found here. Well the good news is that my gingivectomy went well and my new gum line on my front teeth looks great! You can really tell a difference.

The bad news is...I have dry socket.

It sucks and it hurts, and work hates me, so I have to work on oxycodone, and I work at a job where I need to be functional at all times, and it makes me really loopy and I can''t focus...so I can''t take it

.

Sorry, I''m just being a wimp. It doesnt hurt THAT BAD, but it does suck. I can''t eat a whole lot, and the pain meds do weird things to my mood. I work in a resturant and now everyone knows I have pain pills, so the stupid ones are trying to bum them off me (which I wouldn''t ever do and is getting annoying...stupid teenage druggies

! Get your own,

lol!)

I really don''t like taking the drugs, and so I haven''t been

. They''ll end up getting thrown out. I must endure the pain

! LOL!

The good news is they put these medicated things in the holes and they feel better.

Thanks for listening!

Owwwwww, you poor thing...I remember how those felt, but at least I stayed at home for 5 days. You have to go to work already!?
I didn''t take any pain medication either (actually they didn''t give me any), but are you taking the antibiotics? You need to keep the scars from getting infected.

All I have to say is, YOU ARE NOT BEING A WIMP!

Dry sockets is the most painful thing I have ever experienced in my life thus far. I stayed on the drugs, but I was on my SB from college, so I didn't have to work, but I did have to miss work to get them cleaned out. Has that happened to you yet? I'm surprised they haven't made you come back in... they don't just go away. Good luck with them! They put this herbal medicine inside the socket which heals it. NEVER MIND I didn't see this part

Oh yeah, I have a really high pain tolerance too, and normally NOTHING hurts me.. Like I chipped a bone in my hand and I still played volleyball

but this hurt like a BIATCH!

In college, my BFF had dry sockets and I went with her to the dentist and held her hand as they put that medication stuff in....first, I didn''t have any bones in my hand that weren''t crushed, and second, it was the most painful thing I''ve ever WATCHED.

Is it possible for you to take a sick day to recover?!? I can''t imagine dry sockets without meds...I was still on meds from my regular wisdom teeth removal about a week later. You are one touuuuuugh cookie!

Thanks for all the responses guys. I wish I could take a sick day...and I wish even more that I could say I had a job that actually mattered if I was absent, etc. I work as a hostess in a resturant...and the AGM hates me. I mean it, she''s a beep! That being said, no, I can''t take a sick day. I can only get my shifts covered...and I''m one of 3 hostess that can work the morning shifts...I made my classes around work, so I can do the daytime shift for them (nice of me I know right...now I have class at 8am...and they don''t bother to thank me either). Anyways, there are 2 girls every day that work, and one girl works a ton of hours (they don''t give more than 40 and so they wont allow you to work extra shifts over that becuse they are cheap) and the other one is a mom and her bf was in jail or something...so idk, it''s hard to get her to cover shifts, esp. last minute (which this kinda was bc I didn''t know I had dry sockets).

now to top it off...I cant sleep cuz of those pain meds (or because I slept in today because of the dry sockets...idk which, probably a combo of the two!)

AHHH! Sorry thanks for the support guys and letting me vent!

dang that stinks :{
hope your feeling much better in the morning!

ok, I am totally evil... DONT HATE ME...
but since you can''t eat... you''re lookin'' sexy skinny though, right?

LOL I totally wish. I''m sure if I hadn''t realized that cookie dough could be warmed up for 25 sec in the micowave and the chocolate chips turned to warm mush...I probably would be sexy skinny. But nope, I''m still just me! And LOVE the cookie dough (all gone now

...but I did bring home chocolate cake that is super soft after you nuke it for a few

So sorry you are dealing with this - it sounds excruciating!! I really hope the medication and your natural healing processes help soon.

Sorry to hear that you''re in such pain.

I''m sorry you''re going through a rough time! I never took my pain killers they gave me either (attempted once and made me sick, so that was that

)

Oh yeah, don''t tell teenagers you have good pain medication!! They''ll be begging for awhile

Hope you feel better very soon!

Has anyone here been advised to remove their wisdom tooth/teeth and not done so?

Not getting them removed was not an option for me. My teeth were impacted, and causing severe pain! They HAD to come out!

So sorry! I had a terrible experience getting my wisdom teeth out as well so I can totally relate...and when I had them out I was a server at a restaurant and had to work through the pain too.

You''ll feel like yourself again soon and it''ll be all behind you! Hang in there!

Has anyone here been advised to remove their wisdom tooth/teeth and not done so?

I found out a couple of years ago while being xrayed for another oral surgery that I had one wisdom tooth stuck up inside my jawbone on the left side and two wisdom teeth in my jawbone on the right. My oral surgeon wanted them all out because he said they were starting to become decayed. I waited a bit until the left side hurt a little and had that one removed last June 3rd. It was no fun at all. I had a "full bony impaction" and they had to open a flap in my gum, chisel away some of the outside of my jawbone in order to get the plier in there to remove the tooth which didn''t want to come out. The nurse was leaning her body weight into my chest while the surgeon held me down by my forehead and twisted and yanked with the other hand. I didn''t budge. My mouth was dead numb. Afterwards...... there really are no words to describe how I felt or looked. Just let''s say I had a very hard time and it took six weeks for it to all be over. I had complications.

I''m not volunteering to have the two on the right, which are also fully encased in bone, taken out.

Uh oh. I have four impacted ones.

mine were impacted. it sucked. the pain killers they gave me SUCKED and made me puke.. yeah, really awesome when it is your mouth that is messed up.

hmmm.... I think it would be funny if you "gave" those stupid little kids your pain pills... seriously.
IBUPROFEN always works for me... and when they are like- man what is this? You can be like, what? That IS what I am taking! wha ha ha ha ha!

And I can tell by your pic, you are sexy skinny... cookie dough and all!

I had dry socket and I know how bad it sucks!!! Did you have them pack your holes? (I know- that sounds totally wrong!) It really does help- immediately. Sorry you''re going through this! It will get better. Just enjoy your drugs.
