I decided to have my diamond reset into a more traditional 6 prong platinum setting. Though beautiful, I just felt the old setting (Vatche X Prong for a Round Diamond) hid the diamond too much and was much too low set for my personal taste.

Anyway, I won''t get it back until tomorrow night and I hate not having it! It''s been since Saturday (jeweler in in San Francisco, I''m in LA). I know it''s not a huge deal but I feel sort of naked without it. I never took off my engagement ring for anything until last Saturday.

Would you feel weird without your ERing? Sorry, I know I''m whining and I remember being a LIW so I''m not complaining, I just feel weird without it.

Yes I totally would. I remember having to have it resized when I first got it and a few days seemed like a few months! Even after the shower if I forget to put it back on something feels like it''s "missing". Tomorrow night will come soon enough :) Think about other wedding stuff until then

I went almost my entire engagement period WITHOUT my e-ring!

my first setting needed to be reengraved, then resized, then remade, then needed a stone switched out. I wore it for probably two weeks in 4 months

Then we decided to switch the setting which started my new troubles! waited 4-5 weeks for the set, it was too small and one ring got stuck on my finger. went to ER to get it cut off. Sent rings back to be sized and repaired. They looked bad. Sent them back to be remade. Remade the wrong size! Sent them back again, Remade very poorly. Sent them back for one final remake. I think I finally had my rings fine around July or August of 2005, which was a year after I got engaged. Then I had to turn them in to get sizing beads put in which was about a week process.

THEN after the wedding, I sent them back to Tacori to get them soldered, which was another 3 week turn around (with shipping and all.)

My troubles were the running joke around my friends and fam. I actually got a fake e-ring to wear during the time it was gone (a fake solitaire asscher

) and after the wedding I got a wg band, so I didnt have totally naked fingers.

it will be back before you know it!

I totally understand but it will be back before you know it!

I know what you mean, I''ve only had mine for 10 days, but I can''t imagine not having it! I even sleep with it on. Do any of you do that? Or am I just crazy?

I do everything with it on EXCEPT one thing - putting on lotion.

Uhm, ok, sometimes I go back and reread my own posts and I am pretty sure I am crazy.

Which jeweler are you using in SF? Did you use them before, or just heard of them somewhere?

Don''t sweat it - the ring will be back in no time and soon it will feel like it never left.

My jeweler is Derco. I love them. Know the family and have used them for all of our jewelry. wonderful people and we went shopping around and got the best price by far from them but I think beng family friends helped a little.

I know tomorrow will be a lot better. Thanks!

Skylah,

I know what you mean, I had to leave it at home for 10 days when I went on a trip to Israel this winter. (My FI is very cautious about me loosing it and thinks that trips are particularly dangerouse as far as loss of jewelry goes.) Anyway I felt so naked without it and I kept touching my ring finger and getting frazzled when nothing was there, thinking I lost it, for the first two days. I hate that I can''t bring it with me on our honeymoon. But at least I will have the comfort of knowing that there is no chance that it will get lost during that time.

Getting diamond reset can be a process that requires patients. Look at the bright side at least you aren''t getting you ring custom made b/c that would really take a long long time before you see it again.

I take off my ring to put lotion on also, when I exercise and when I shower.

How sad!
I had my e-ring reset awhile back. I am pretty goofy, I went out and bought a fakey to wear in its place.

Skylah-

I know the feeling! It took my jeweler (who I can no longer stand and will never use again but used for the band since I wanted it to match and fit up against the e-ring he had made me) a FREAKING MONTH to make my wedding band. And it''s not all that ornate.

He said when I took it in; two weeks tops.

So I called after two weeks. He said call back next week.

I called after three weeks. He said come in the next week.

I came in on Friday (one day short of a month) and he MADE THE WRONG RING.
And I mean totally, totally wrong. Flat, "pipe cut" type if you know what I mean, shiny, not engraved, not curved to fit my engagement ring, nothing. Just totally plain. (Had told him it was supposed to be cut to fit directly up against ering, be engraved with same pattern, etc. Why else would I have him do it, I could''ve just bought one on overstock for cheaper!)

So he remade it. And did a bad job; he cut a part out of the ring, moulded that piece around my ering, and then welded it back on, leaving lines and everything. The engraving was not what it was supposed to be. The flush-fit to the ering was okay I will admit.

I came back in the next Monday, ready to kill if it wasn''t ready. I called first. He said it was ready; I said I''d be in within the hour. When I arrived he kept me waiting half an hour while he finished polishing and such. I was SO incredibly mad.

I paid him in cash, took the ring, and just left. It wasn''t worth the stress; in a few years I''ll have the band set with bead-set diamonds and I''ll never see the engraving anymore. It wasn''t worth the fight, but I''ll know now that the money I''ll be spending in future years on jewelry sure won''t be with him; he was a nightmare the whole time of the ering process.

So, Skylah, yes I do know how you feel, but just think how excited you''ll be when you get it back- it is almost like being reengaged! Sorry for the temp. thread hijacking!

It''s funny because we got engaged and had a really simple WG trellis setting that I ended up not loving (we never went and tried on settings). I decided to get my e-ring reset and I went three weeks without it

everyday was torture! It was even worse knowing that it was done and I couldn''t pick it up

Don''t worry I understand your pain and you''re not crazy!

Speaking of which I need to part with mine again soon to get it resized.

I totally know how you feel. I got engaged on December 17th, since then I have had my ring for less then a month!

I want to cry when people ask me what happened, or if we broke up…and my grandparents never got to see it before the stone was broken. I am hoping to have my more sensible 6 prong setting tomorrow. My ring finger has been naked for too long!

In the mean time I am drooling over the eye candy here.

I''m familiar with Derco - we got DH''s wedding band there. Love them! Was curious if you were using someone I hadn''t heard of. Good to know, thanks!

Wait, wait, wait ... am I missing something

I thought you had your ring custom made, didn''t they size it correctly the first time they made it?

i don''t even know how long i was without mine - don''t want to count the days/weeks. it was torture. i went to so many social events where i saw people for the first time since becoming engaged. immediately they''d look down at my hand... nothing there. i even met all of my FI''s extended family practically for the first time and i had bare fingers. my heart broke with every introduction. so did his.

Kaleidoscopic -- my FI and I insured the ring for total replacement so that I can travel with it and it will be covered in case of theft, etc. Maybe your FI would feel more at ease if you had a special insurance for the ring? My FI and I have it added on to our renters insurance :)

Hehe no worries..it was a little loose when they made it actually (when I compare it to my original it''s a smidge bigger I think because it''s custom) anyway, I''ve been losing weight lately so it''s gotten way too loose

ugh, e-ringless sucks. I''ve been minus ring for so long now that it will be weird when my new ring is finally finished (maybe in a week?!) It''s been two months now, and I was missing it on and off after we got engaged in September. no fun!

Any hints on what it''s going to look like?! So nosy of me I know...

vaguely like your beauty...

Quest is making my new ring, too! It''s going to be similar to my old ring, with a couple fun changes... hehe, so cryptic!
