So... I''ve only been around here for about a month, but I am excited, so I thought I would share.
S and I have had a lot of conversations recently about the future and how much we would like to be engaged sooner rather than later, and we had a few very serious discussions over the weekend about when exactly I could expect an official proposal. He narrowed it down quite a bit by saying he could order a ring after Christmas, so that was good to hear since we''d originally looked at getting engaged in the spring.
Tonight, though, I was saying how I have no intrinsic motivation to continue working on my graduate assistantship work, because it''s down to the boring part (converting footnotes of my prof''s textbook on cataloging into a bibliography... ack! Combining my least favorite parts of my masters in library science--bibliographies and cataloging!) and the only reason I have to keep working is a) paychecks, which are paltry compared to what I make as a library assistant, my regular job, and b) avoiding embarrassment if the work isn''t done by my deadline of January.
S is working on his second degree (this time he''s adding a teaching credential) and has been very interested in motivational theory recently, and when I told him this, he got a very excited look on his face.
"What if I said we could order your ring this week if you get the bibliography done?"
!!!
I said, "All right, you have yourself a deal!" We shook hands on it, too.
So, as long as I stay focused (i.e. avoid this forum! and Facebook and watching the final episode of ''A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila'' and all my other procrastination techniques), I can have the sparkler sooner!
And, btw, we''re probably going to order a wedding band from the Facets Collection (likely this 7 RB band in white gold) and I''ll wear it as my only ring. Although I would love to have the 1-carat asscher I first flipped for, I am mindful of our student budget and would rather not wait just to have a more expensive thing. I''ve looked at the 7, 9, and 11 stone bands, and they are a great amount of sparkle for the money.
Now, down to work!! (I will probably check in just before hitting the hay .)
