Worse diamond proportions but better HCA score?

Hi everyone, I came across another 0.9ct stone with seemingly worse diamond proportions than my current 0.9ct stone but I ran it through the HCA tool and found that it had a way better score?? Is this even possible? Can anyone explain to me why this is so?

My stone with better proportions and a HCA score of 1.6:

The stone with “worse” proportions but a better HCA score of 1!

A 1 score is not better than a 1.6 score both are a passing score.
The second one is a nice proportion set for a 60/60 style diamond cut.

And in daily use will look better 95% of the time!

What is a 60/60 style diamond? I’m new to buying diamonds and have not come across this term before

Are you referring to the second or first one?

As Karl says - under 2 is all you need worry about.
The second stone is shallower.
i hop you are making them into earrings of using them as a pair - you will find most of the time the shallower diamonds will out perform IRL.

I actually bought the first stone to set into an engagement ring but after seeing the score of the 2nd stone I panicked a little thinking I may have made the wrong choice.

Would you have picked the first or second stone for an engagement ring?

To little data so far.
hca is a rejection tool so its saying these are worth considering.
Have any images or video?

There are a lot of threads about it, search is above.
Basically a 60/60 type is a diamond with a table around 60% and depth around 60%
They have a different look than some other proportion sets but can score highly in all the tests if cut right.

I only have the images and videos here for the first stone:

As for the second stone unfortunately there aren’t any images available online as I saw this stone at a local boutique.

What are your thoughts on the first stone?

Based only on the proportions the first for an engagement ring (if you clean it at least once a week) and the second for earrings or an Ering if you rarely clean it.

I don’t quite get what you are implying here.....why the difference in the frequency of cleaning between the two stones?

Shallower diamonds are less affected by oil and gunk which results in dulling of diamonds.
The diamond on the left has similar proportions to your first diamond. On the right is shallower. The crown facets are less affected. The diamond earrings had not been cleaned for a while and were rotated every day from one ear to the other as a test.
Experts all thought the shallower diamond looked better when worn.
I did this test more than a decade ago but it is hard to get people to understand.

Ah I see - and which would you say out of the two would most likely have better light performance? Stone 1 or 2?

Just not possible to say without seeing the second stone. Diamonds are more than their angles on paper. Two stones with identical angles can look very different from each other.

These links may be able to help.

I certainly can't blame you for thinking the proportions are "worse".....based on reading here.....
IMO, I'd most likely pick the second stone if they were both in front of me.....
This is exactly why I fought the "cheat sheet" for so many years...I finally gave up.....
