FF and I got back from Mexico. We''ve never had a worse vacation in our lives.

Day 1 and part of day 2 were OK. At some point on day 2, sunblock was just not enough, and we both got pretty much the worst sunburns we''ve ever had. We spent the next two days laying down in our air conditioned room applying aloe, and hardly even left the room unless the sun was down. We were feeling better by Thursday, but either FF drank the water accidentally, or got some bad food, and was sick the rest of the time until we left Saturday morning. The food at the resort was so bad that the last day we were so scared to eat it, that we ended up not eating all of Friday, or on Saturday until our layover in Dallas at 5:30 PM. I''ve never been so excited to eat McDonalds in my life!

FF and I are laughing about it, because well, what else can you do? We''re calling it a "learning experience". We decided we are not resort people. We are adventurers and we need big cities to explore. Spending 5 days in a pool, drunk, just does NOT work for us. So we decided the next trip is going to be to Europe next year. :)

I have some pictures from Cabo that are really pretty and I''ll post those in a bit.

So glad to be home!!

Shoot!! Sorry to hear your trip wasn''t all it was cracked up to be....

Well at least you got to spend some quality time together, even if it was in the room rubbing (very gently of course) aloe on eachother. Hopefully your very painful burns will turn into a nice tropical tan in a couple days.

oh no! i think we''ve all had those "learning" experiences - never fun! i can''t wait to see the pictures though!

oh no! i''m sorry to hear that your vacation did not go as planned!! it sounds like you and your SO have bonded over it, though, so at least there''s that silver lining!!! hopefully your next trip will be better!

Oh, elle, how terrible that you and your BF had such a crappy (no pun intended) vacation! I had a similar bad vacation once--went with my sorority for Spring Break to Cancun. I got the worst sunburn ever and I just wanted to stay in my room and sleep, but one of the girls I was staying with decided to have several 'visitors' over during the course of the vacation which meant I had to go out and there was really only more sun or bars in the area we were staying. And, there is just so much drinking you can do (even at 20, which I was at the time).

You will have a much better time next year in Europe. Any thoughts about where you want to go?

We''re laughing about it now, but yeah, it was a bad vacation!

We were just thinking the whole time we were there, we could have been in Northern Michigan at a nice hotel, and really had a great time with a lot of things to do.

As far as Europe next year, we both really want to go to Greece. We''ve never been there. I''ve been to France and Switzerland, however, I really want to go back to Paris. Maybe we can bum around Europe in it''s entirety for a few weeks.

Ooh. Greece is amazing. Still the beach/tropical thing going on, but a lot of history, too. I just saw a travel special on Capri and it looked amazing. And, Paris is fantastic, too. You will have a fabulous trip next year!

OH NO!!! Your trip sounds like my *first* trip to Mexico. Why oh why did I agree to go back? Blerg!!! Maybe I should make my "sig" JUST SAY NO TO MEXICO.

Greece or Paris sounds great!! The best thing to do after a bad trip is start planning the NEXT one!

LOL!

My first trip to Mexico was with coworkers (as all of my trips have been). I took a dramamine as soon as I got on the flight because I knew the altitude would get me (especially coming from FL). They all thought I was a "baby" until they got there with mega headaches.

Then I met them for dinner. We made jokes about not drinking the water. I get to the table and they all have bottled water...in cups with ice.

Where did they think the icecubes came from?? Needless to say I finished the project practically alone.

Okay, I haven''t been to Mexico...yet, but our son and family are leaving in a couple of weeks for their third vacation to the country, but their second to this resort. So far, no problems. It''s a 5*, but I''m not sure how much that matters.

My BFF and hubby have been spending every February for the past three years in different parts of Mexico, and they''ve had no problems either, and believe me, they''re not staying in 5* accommodations.

My worst ever was the ten days DH and I spent divided between Sand Key and Lido Beach in February of 2003. Maybe the date rings a bell for some of you, but for us it had no significance at all until we arrived at Toronto, our departure airport. The place was covered with armed security guards as it happened to be the day the US invaded Iraq. We had no recourse, but to continue our holiday plans as aborting two hours before departure would have cost us our entire vacation cost. On second thought, *I* did have a choice!

The whole vacation went downhill from there. I would never have believed that my fear would take over my life making me physically ill and unable to sleep...for..ten...long...days. My fear was intensified by being told over every loudspeaker we were near to "be vigilant". We tried to watch a little TV, but all I remember seeing were the interviews with the families of the soldiers, who had been deployed, crying and crying. We were assured that the TV at the bar wasn''t televising coverage so proceeded down there. What did we hear? Endless choruses of " God Bless America", "The Star Spangled Banner" and "America The Beautiful" sung over and over.

I kept saying to DH, "Get me out of here NOW!" but hubby wasn''t having any problems at all and couldn''t see the need for cutting short our vacation. Why return to a wintery Canada when the weather was perfect down there? We stayed the full ten days, but miraculously by the time our flight landed in Toronto, I felt fine. I''m sharing this with all of you who choose to read it, not because of whether I believed the US should or should not be in Iraq, but to show the amazing power of the mind is to cause me such physical ailments.

We honeymooned in Cabo... It was so hot and of course, you can''t drink the water, so we spent a lot of money on bottled water. Our parents paid for our honeymoon, so (luckily) we were in 5 star resorts and could do lots of things inside, and we had great food to eat. I''m so sorry to hear that you had such a bummer of a time!

I think our worst vacation was to Myrtle Beach- We had to evacuate for hurricane Charlie!

I''m sorry you had such a bad experience in Cabo! I was there last summer with my friend and we had an awesome time! Most of the resorts have a filtration system so you can drink the water (in small amounts) without getting sick. And, our resort also gave us a bottle of water per person each day in our room. I think when you''re traveling to developing countries/areas, it''s better to stay in a "nicer" place. But at least this will be a learning experience for next time!

May Greece be your BEST vacation ever!!!

Awwww Im sorry about that! But hey, now you have a fun story to tell in the future! This whole sunburn thing kind of reminds me of the movie The Heartbreak Kid with Ben Stiller. If you have seen it, then you will know what Im talking about. (by the way, this movie is hilarious)

Either way, welcome home!!!!!!!
