Worth a reset?

Hi everyone, I have had a wedding set since 2013 which is in the style I love. However, I have been bothered by the quality and workmanship, and am wondering if I am being unreasonable.

I would consider resetting it in the same style, but not sure if it is worth it.

Here are some pictures (excuse the dirty ring). I would be grateful for your input.

When I first got my apple watch, I never really like the band that came with it, wearing the apple watch is purely functional. UNTIL one day I ordered a pair leather apple watch band. WOW what a difference that made for me. Now I love my watch. I only wish I have done it earlier.

So IMHO, if you like the center diamond, intend to keep it, then changing the setting will make a huge difference. It will turn your "old" stone into a brand new ring. It might give you great joy in wearing it everyday.

However a nice beautifully crafted setting similar to your existing one is expensive. And it is customized to the center stone. If you intend to upgrade the center stone in the future, you will probably not able to re-use the setting. If that is not a factor, then I vote for a new setting.

Do you feel sentimental attachment to this mount?
A little love to the halo, finishing metal tweaks and a prong rework and that ring will look lovely. A good rehab is all she needs.
But, if you want a new dress, there are endless possibilities that way as well.

It's a very pretty setting. You can have it cleaned and repolished. Sometimes that makes a big difference. Can you be more specific about the quality issues you're concerned about? It's kind of hard to judge from the pictures.

Thank you!
I should have been specific. The diamond just doesn’t look like it fits the halo, and the basket area just looks unfinished.

This may just be a picky thing, which is why I posted hehe.

The diamond looks like it fits the halo to me. I would have the prongs on the oval re-worked to be a little nicer. The
underside is simple. Not sure if someone (DK?) could polish it up and maybe add some metal work in the cut-out areas
(could do mixed metal) to get a more finished looked. However, if you dont think you'll be happy with the same setting
even if re-worked then I would suggest having it redone by one of the masters like Maytal Hannah.

OP, I like your setting and ring a lot. I would give it a good cleaning/polish.

Can you tell me where you got your Apple Watch band? I hate the gummy bands but like you, my watch is purely functional and perfect for my needs especially with my job etc. I was eyeing the Lagos band by my fiancé said you want a $600 band for a $200 watch?! Well since you put it that way...maybe not. :/

ITA with this post.

I don't think you're being picky. You should love your whole ring. As long as you are happy with your center stone, I think it's fine to remake your current setting with whatever tweaks you like. It can't hurt to look into the process and get estimates.

+ a billion

I suppose it depends on how much it seems to bother you... I know for me personally, I get almost an equal level of enjoyment from the beauty of the setting itself than from the center stone, and in fact, often admire the gallery profile and its curves and craftsmanship!

You should LOVE your ring without reservation... so if your finances and time commitment allow for it, I say go for a reset!

I agree that it is really pretty and just in need of a tune-up. I would definitely give that a shot before spending money on a new one. Unless you are going to change the design substantially I don’t think it’s worth a remake.
Question - do you wear this together with a band?

Good question about what’s worn next to this ring. Looks like wear/cutting in from a diamond band as well?
I also agree with previous posters that think the halo fits the shape of your oval pretty well. What are you seeing that makes you think otherwise, @smakie ?

if you are thinking of a haloed and pave’d ring in a much daintier style - please consider that some of them really aren’t meant for daily wear if you do much with your hands. there’s plenty of threads here about dainty /pave and daily wear.
Is your current ring 18 or 14k white gold?

plus- I feel if you get more personal satisfaction/enjoyment from a reset - it’s always worth it. Whether or not someone casually can tell it’s been reset or not is another subject :)
