Would this be appropriate for a Fall beach wedding?

I just found this dress online today and I love it. I'm hoping to have a Fall '08 beach wedding. While I love the look of the long, lacy dresses that are out there these days, I'm worried that they're a little too formal, not to mention most are mermaid style which isn't flattering on my body-type.

This dress is shorter than a traditional dress, but it's classic in its style and the material. It's also A-line, which is a plus. I'd probably wear it without the jacket unless it was a particularly chilly day. Is it matronly though and semi-formal enough for a beach wedding? More importantly, is it weddingy?

throw on a birdcage veil and add on a bouquet & one groom... and POUF!! you''ve got bride written all over that!

That''s very pretty!!!!!

I think you need to be on the taller side for this style, but it is very pretty and elegant!!!

I like fact you would have the flexibility to wear the jacket, if the weather is not optimal. It will be super cute though, either way!

I''m 5''7" So hopefully I''ll be able to pull it off. Also, depending on how it''s constructed I might be able to have it hemmed in a way that maintains the scalloped edge on the bottom. I don''t know yet though, I''m still just gathering ideas.

You definitely can pull it off then!!!

I love the detail on it, it''s so delicate and pretty!!!

LOVE it. I think you''ll look amazing in that, and the versatility with the jacket is fantastic.

I think it is just lovely, and very fitting for a Fall Beach wedding... I think it is very unique but classic...

Who''s make is it ? I never say a dress with a jacket like that before...

I love the optional jacket, since I am always cold...

I LOVE IT!! If I didn''t already had a dress ordered, I''d be tracking that one down to try on. If you do try it on, will you post pics? It''s gorgeous!

I agree- beautiful, especially with a birdcage veil as jcrow suggested-

I'm also curious who makes that - love the jacket option

eta: i just saw your comment on the hem. after a second look, it seems similar to the hem on my gown (i.e. the lace is an overlay- in which case a good seamstress would be able to hem it while maintaining the scallop.)
I think they take off the lace, hem, and then reattach the scallopped part.

I forgot to add, yes, I think it''s totally appropriate for a fall wedding on the beach. Who''s the designer?

It''s from Watters

And it's really affordable from House of Brides. I think I might have to track down a store with it in the Boston/Providence area and try it on sometime soon.

Oh, and what's a bird cage veil? I was thinking of just wearing a flower behind my ear or nothing at all.

HH, it''s a lovely dress but you really need to try on tea length dresses. I tried quite a few as that was my first choice but on me, they looked matronly and that bottom flair wasn''t flattering. I''d definitely try it on to see how it falls...it''s very pretty! And you could probably wear the jacket for years to come...

Honestly if I went with it I''d probably hem it a little shorter so it brushes my knees. Tea length makes me look like I have kankles. But I don''t want it to be racy. Jeesh, I think I just need to go try it on.

Holy SHMOO! I LOVE THAT! I might need to get that for the civil ceremony... Can we be dress twins?!

I mean, if it looks nice on me and everything.

ETA: Errrr.... but I'm barely 5'2", so maybe I can't pull it off.

I''m 4''9" and was thinking that maybe it would fall at my ankles.

Indy, I''d be honored to be your dress twin.

Now the other alternative is a floor-length dress in the same style and cut. Do you think that would be too formal for a beach wedding?

Like this for example

I LOOVE that dress! I''m getting married on the beach this fall and would have DEFINITELY tried on that dress if I''d seen it months ago. It''s fantastic! Try it on (and don''t forget to post pics! :)

I''m wearing a mermaid-shaped gown and ordered a birdcage veil on a whim, that I''m not wearing. I''ll try to find a picture of the veil...

here''s a pic of the veil on a manequine.
