would this bother you?

Hi everyone-there are some inclusions in one of my side stones that are eye-visible from certain angles in certain lighting. I have some pictures and was wondering if this would bother you (I know this is a matter of personal preference but I am looking for opinions). I am not sure that the black spots bother me but this sidestone seems to be less sparkly than the other one, perhaps because of a largeish what I assume to be a cloud? It is difficult to capture with the digital camera but here goes :)

first, a handshot of my ring

Imma be honest with you -- I can see the inclusions clearly in the face-up photo (with all 3 diamonds), and they ... don't bother me because I'm captivated by the arrows in your SCHA!

But, if they bother you...sidestones are relatively inexpensive. You can have them replaced, if you wish.

it does look cloudy in the pics - though of course photos don't necessarily tell the same truths

what does your vendor say? It would bother me.

I will ask the vendor. I suppose my FI will not be pleased but it is only one sidestone. I know the pears are not supposed to sparkle like the SCHA but to me this one looks cloudier than the other one. Under a loupe it looks :knockout: I will take some pics of the other pear to see if I can do a comparison (or maybe take a short video) but of course you can only get so much from pics

well, i think it's a personal opinion.

For me, I can see an inclusion in my stone from the side at certain angles. I used to look for it all the time and stare, but now I have moved past it, gotten over it.

However, I can see the cloudiness you mentioned. That would bother me more than the inclusion. I really did not notice the inclusions or cloudiness until you told me. I am sure no one IRL will notice them, just you. You have to be happy with them!

If I felt like the cloudiness reduced the brilliance of the ring as a whole, then that would bother me because I wouldn't be able to forget about it. But the ring is very beautiful as is, so of all the details to notice I doubt the average person would pick up on that.

As far as the little black inclusion goes, I would probably just wear the ring with that stone facing the other way... that's just my kind of shortcut though :)

It would probably bother me.

I'd clean my ring, wear it everyday for the next two weeks (if you haven't already) and see how I feel then though. If I couldn't stop looking at it after two weeks, I'd probably take steps to change it.

What was the inclusion grade, by the way?

ETA - I just saw your SMTB photos. I know you said the inclusions only show in some lighting... I'm not sure I really saw these clouds in your SMTB photos. I mean - maybe they were there.... I don't know. but I definitely suggest a deep ultrasonic clean or a clean by a jeweler's ultrasonic, if you haven't brought it in for a while.

Your ring really is gorgeous, by the way.

The cloudiness would bother me because its not in the same league as your center stone. I would want both pears to match each other and sparkly like the center stone. Its a very pretty ring.

To me, it does look unbalanced at present. I would change the sidestone.

Beautiful ring, but the cloudiness would bother me as well.....

Honestly, yes. I think I'd replace it.

I think you can guess my answer if you know anything about my "history" with my ring. If I wasn't happy with it, I'd change it...perhaps the vendor will simply swap the stone for you? The inclusion would bother me less than the cloud, as it does reduce the brilliance of the center stone, which, btw, is stunning!!

Thanks everyone for your honest replies. Also thanks for the compliments on my ring :) It is not big by PS standards but I am really enjoying it :)

iota the sidestones are not certed but are listed as "F/G, VS clarity".

Here is another attempt to show both sidestones. the pic labeled sidestone 1 is the cloudy one.

swingirl I am not sure that the pears can match the center stone. I suspect that pears just don't have the same type of brightness/light return? (not that there aren't BEAUTIFUL pears out there, but I am not sure how to find them in small sizes).

If I ask the vendor to replace them, do you think they would 'trade these in'? Or should I wait a few years for AGS0 pears (I am not sure if this is happening but it would be nice)

I am surprised that a VS graded pear would have a cloud that big. Could it just be the cut is just busier on that stone at the tip? The little back dot would not bother me at all. The center stone draws my eye away from the side stones as it is the star of the ring!

slg, I went back and looked at your original post with the glamour shots. Those photos, and the ones on your hand after you got it, do not seem to be cloudy at all. I agree with iota15; a really good cleaning may be in order before you decide. And if you don't like it, get them replaced. :))

Anne, thanks for going back and looking at my original pics (I was able to find them because I named it with a searchable name! woo!)

I did try to clean the ring before taking these pics but I agree that getting a really good professional cleaning is a good idea. I took about 100+ pictures of the ring when I got it (I was, and still am, a little obsessed :cheeky: ) and I will sort through those to see if I have any good ones of the side stones.
