My fiancé who is self proclaimed photographer can’t even get a good shot lol :lol-2::lol-2::lol-2::lol-2::lol-2:

You just can’t capture a sparkly diamond!! Or is that the whole point (to enjoy in person???)

Put it on something for the camera to focus, like flowers or a figurine. Then use “close up” mode (if you have it) or a clip on macro lens, or download Mag. Light.

Then post em here. :kiss2:

Yes to what @ringo865 wrote. Also just keep on taking them and having fun taking them and you will end up with some good photos. I just aim my phone and snap away. In fact I took a whole new bunch of photos of my ring this AM. I think I enjoy taking the photos of bling as much as I enjoy seeing the photos of bling.

And yes, please post them here!

I had a terribly difficult time taking photos as well of a diamond in its setting... I found out the following little tricks helped a ton. But getting a good shot still took a lot of attempts with my iPhone.

I’ll post example pics shortly when I have them ready, I don’t want to corrupt your thread.

Too much light is actually a problem... try to get a watch box or something that can block out light coming in from the sides and let you control what is hitting the ring. Preferably the light hitting the ring is coming from somewhat the same angle as the camera.

Get a cheap selfie stick / tripod combination with a Bluetooth remote shutter button. Not having to touch the phone helps keep things in focus.

Put something with vibrant and varied colors (poster, painting, or a pattern cloth) along the wall above where you’re working. This is so the diamond and setting pick up some color and don’t come out looking dull.

A spray can to blow the little bits of dust off. I have an epic-fail thread in the Rocky forum about “dust issues”. Ugh.

Have a mobile diffused light source option (flashlight with some white cloth or semi-clear white plastic over the beam). Helps fill in light in your dark box environment.

This is an old but still totally relevant thread - pinned to the top of SMTB just fyi

@missy, you take beautiful pictures of your diamonds!

I get one good shot for every 20 I take it seems. If I’m trying to get fire, I take a burst of photos as I move the ring around. Also found using a macro setting helps a lot, as does shooting through a loupe. I’m very limited though as I just use my iPhone X, but I’ve been able to get some good shots.

Gorgeous photos!

Take a ton, from all angles, in all kinds of lighting. And definitely on macro setting. Sunsets are great times to get soft pics. Of course flowers are some of the greatest props, and windowsills are good too, but don't be afraid to get adventurous. Try anything, anywhere. And don't look at it on your camera and think it's no good and delete it. Sometimes it's only on your computer screen that you realize you got a good one.

This was probably one of the coolest ones I ever got. I held my hand up to the west window in my bedroom where there were blinds, though closed. But still a lot of bright light coming through. This is what I ended up getting.

And this may not be a huge fave of a lot, but I love it. It's so "soft". This was on my patio as the sun was setting.

Gorgeous photos!
Thank you! Diamonds and photography are both passions for me, so I love when I get to blend them together.

Also. Can't stress enough, the camera has to be still. If I was getting a good shot, but it was not quite right because I couldn't hold the camera still, I would get whatever (box, books, etc) to prop my arm/hand on to get the camera totally still.

x2 zoom on phone camera move it around until you see the black arrows (phone reflection) hold it still then snap away!

Easier said than done I know ...
