I saw these and they are beautiful but undertows. I’m purchasing this as a gift for my mother inlaw who is a die hard coral lover and will only buy untreated ones. I don’t know much about corals myself, so figured a certification will assure the lack of treatmentSold - Pair of carved coral roses, half-drilled
I bought these a few years ago as studs - clearly a DIY job, and horribly done, but the roses themselves were really pretty. But it’s been years and I’ve done nothing with them, so… Any interest? Could be used for earrings, hair ornaments, brooches… Bought as salmon coral, undyed, and...www.pricescope.com
@yssie
I actually do have my grandmother’s coral bead necklace and matching earrings. They were purchased from William Noble Rare Jewels in Dallas and are white. They are so large they remind me of jaw breakers. Anyway, if you were interested in discussing further, let me know how to get in touch. They just sit in my jewelry box; I’ve worn them once since 2003.
Well, I know @LilAlex isn’t a lady but glad you were successful
Did you see the GIA reports? I’d want to see those before deciding, personally.
No flags in either report, aside from age - but if you inspected them and felt they were in good condition then that’s not of concern either. So up to your preference. I’d choose the longer one for the darker red colour, and also because there are enough beads to split into bracelet + necklaceTrying again
Can’t ever tell all that much from photos…
But those beads look clean and evenly-coloured, and they’re huge! And this colour is valued more highly than the typical orange and speckled/splotched - and value differential only increases with size and good condition.
Please have them appraised (by someone who knows about coral - most appraisers won’t!) or sent to one of the bigger labs for a report! They could be worth quite a bit.
The round shape and rounded ends suggests they’re either not super old or they were refinished somewhat recently.
Good for her and it seems she was blessed with excellent taste, too If you’re open to GIA I’d do that first for sure, and then send to a vendor like Lang if you’re looking to sell. Please share the report when you get them back. I’m super curious. Coral is a sort-of-secret #Thing of mine. I don’t have anything near as nice as your grandmother’s strand though!!Thank you! I suspect my grandmother bought them in the 1990s. My grandfather never bought her much jewelry, so she made up for it when she was a widow. I will send them to GIA then try to find an appraiser.
