I need some shopping help, ladies!

My daughter turns 11 next month, and she really wants a color change sapphire (blue to purple). I wonder where she gets such ideas?

Ideally, it would be loose, but it would ultimately be set into a pendant, so if someone has a pendant to sell (or knows of where to buy one already set), I would also consider that.

The budget is not huge, I was thinking $150-$200 for the stone itself.

Any good stones out there? Shape doesn't matter.

What size were you looking for? I think your budget's probably going to get you a sub-carat stone in the 4-5mm range on which it might be hard to see a big colour change, but it'd probably get a larger stone with a more obvious shift if you were okay with lower clarity, or maybe a tanzanite with different colour from different angles?

Edited to add: If any of the commonly recommended CS vendors has such a sapphire in that price range, it'll be Dana at Mastercut Gems or maybe the guys at Multicolour - maybe browse Multicolour and email Dana? He's got a bunch of African stones that he seems to list in ones and twos....

Edited again to add: sorry, lost my head about which forum this was in. I'll look through my boxes and see if I've got anything!

I agree that for your budget, it will be very small and the colour change difficult to see BUT your daughter may not be fussed about it. Let me look around too.

I will look at those vendors, specifically... I appreciate the recommendations! I am open to buying online or seeing what people have pre-loved... I don't think my daughter would be too worried about a smaller size (she knows sapphs are pricey), but she is set on that stone, as it is her birthstone!

Thanks for taking the time to reply!

Thanks, I appreciate it! As long as it is a sapph and it's a genuine stone, she will be happy.

Thanks again for this suggestion... I emailed Dana, and he is checking the vault for anything he might have... he says he has an 8-year-old daughter and understands. :appl:

Kristen I have a sapphire pendant I've been meaning to post. It's not a color change but it's a bi-color stone.
Here's my link: https://www.pricescope.com/forum/preloved-ps-jewels/3ct-7-8mm-blue-zircon-bicolor-sapphire-master-cut-gems-t204484.html

Disregard the zircon, it's no longer for sale. If you're interested in the pendant contact me via my LT listing.
The sapphire is very pretty and a great size. It looks golden/yellow most of the time but has the cool blue streak.
If I remember correctly you're in IL so shipping would be easy.

Hi,
I have a nice Songea sapph from Dan Stair that is a strong shifter, but it isn't blue-purple, it's a really unusual color. The color change in the lighting I have is a mid green to a rich cranberry. If your daughter would be interested in something not blue-purple, I'd be happy to post some pics.

STONE: Color Change Sapphire
WEIGHT: .70 Cts.
CUT: Portuguese Brilliant
DIMENSIONS: 5.46 mm

I asked Dan about his experience with Songea shifters and this was his reply:

Songea sapphires are all over the map as far as colors go. I've cut them that changed from red to orange, purple to blue-green, green to pink-purple, yellow-green to pinkish golden, and on and on. Often they are also both dichroic and bi-color in addition to having color changes.

(edited to add stats)

Thanks for the help, everyone! An aunt and a grandma chipped in, so the budget got bumped up and we decided to go with woofmama's bicolor pendant. We can't wait to get it! Her birthday is on the 18th, so I can take some neck shot then. Thanks again!

Woofmama, just wanted to let you know that my (now 14-year-old) daughter still wears your sapphire all the time. :) It is gorgeous!
