Well, with everyone''s talk about finding a dress before receiving a ring, I decided to jump on the bandwagon and start looking at dresses. Like I said, you ladies are a bad influence. I told my boyfriend I was looking, and I was trying to get him to give me an idea of what he would prefer, and he immediately said, "Oh, no--are you going to be one of those girls who has a dress before a ring?" I told him he better hurry up with the proposal if he didn''t want that to happen!

Anyway, I was mostly just browsing the dresses many of the BIW had posted, and I also looked through the dresses at the Knot. I can tell that my boyfriend prefers the strapless look, and I have athletic shoulders, so I know that will look good on me. I''d also prefer to have something in an A-line, as my hourglass figure is a bit bottom-heavy. I have pale skin and red hair, so I''m wondering if maybe ivory will look better on me, but I feel I''ve earned the right to wear white! I think I''ll just have to wait until I actually start trying on some dresses to know for sure.

So I found a dress I love, but I''m not having much luck finding it in a store. The store in NYC where the Knot claims it is available doesn''t even say it carries that line on their Web site. The line''s Web site says the line is carried at a different store in NYC, but the Knot doesn''t list that store as carrying that specific dress! So I was wondering if you ladies could lend me some assistance. It is a Romantic Bridals dress, and the style number is 8600. I''m a little too embarrassed to just call these places up without even so much as an engagement ring on my finger, as I know I''ll be tempted to go try it on right away.

Even if you don''t know where to find it, what do you think? Here it is, in all its glory:

Absolutely stunning! Your BF had better hurry and produce that ring

I also thank you for mentioning that you''ve earned the right to wear white. Go for the white dress you love!!!

Heheh. You gals are so bad! But hey, who does it hurt, right? I've been thinking I might be at the 'time to secretly start reading bride ****' stage. After all, we're checking out rings.

But Sarah, even if you earned the right to wear white (wow!) I think redheads always look WAY better in cream or ivory than they do in pure white.

(And BTW I'm jealous. I always wanted red hair.

It looks almost identical to maggie sottero chantilly. It''s one of the more popular maggies. Here''s a link to stores that carry her dresses in NY: http://www.maggiesottero.com/stores.aspx
Oh, Robbie, you''re right! I''m not sure which I like more, though--the zip back or the tie-up. I think I might prefer the zipper, and the Chantilly looks like it might have more of that spiral staircase effect going on (my boyfriend hated every dress I showed him that had that). I''d also prefer to spend less than $600 on my dress, so I''m not sure an authentic Maggie Sottero is an option. That doesn''t mean I can''t go try one on, though!

I must say, I was very impressed with all of your threads while shopping for your own dress--there were so many I loved! I saved a few of them for inspiration. Good luck with the rest of your wedding planning!

Awe, thanks hun! You''d be surprised at the deals you can find. So many girls buy a dress and then change their mind (like me!) and then end up selling it brand new on ebay. That''s how I got my second dress (the maggie). I think it ended up being under $500 with shipping (the seller was in england).

There are lots of similar dresses to this as well, so if there''s something you don''t like about the maggie version you might be able to find another you like better. Good luck!

Well, I officially have a "watch" on eBay looking out for anything that''s "maggie sottero chantilly." I am so, so bad.

As soon as I get a chance (I have almost a week off between my last day of classes and finals, then another week off after finals and before graduation), I''m going to go downtown to try on that gorgeous dress--if only to get an idea of my size and color preference. And, naturally, I''ll have to try on some other styles as well.

I''ll just say my e-ring is getting resized...

Or you could buy a fake one from Macy''s or somewhere. Some of them look pretty real...
