I’ve been casually looking for a yellow sapphire. Pricing seems to be all over the place. I’m totally confused. I’m seeing stuff like this on Etsy and eBay https://etsy.me/3ojN4rG and also seeing others for thousands. What is the difference? Just Origin? Is something more desirable? Also so many look cloudy in photos. Are they just hard to photograph. Advice? Info? Any vendor recs?

That one must be a synthetic, too big for the price, you'd be lucky to find a 1ct Sapphire that is not BE treated for that kind of money.
Looking at the other gems in the shop, they all seem to be synthetic.

From my etsy saved shops:

I’m guessing you’re right. Here is another “cheapie” that is supposedly natural. https://www.ebay.com/itm/AAA-Natura...p2349624.m46890.l6249&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0

I had seen a few gorgeous stones that were around .60 cts in the $400 - $500 price range but then I started seeing tons of “cheapies” so I was thrown off.

thank you for sharing those links! They have some gorgeous stones and pricing seems on par with what I was assuming was appropriate in the first place.

It's a good price for a synthetic Sapphire, if it's a Sapphire and not CZ or glass.

Here are a few cheaper smaller ones:

Gary at finewater gems sourced me a gorgeous 2+ carat light yellow sapphire from Sri Lanka. It took a few visits for him to find one, but he eventually did. That was before Covid, though.

He did say recently that he is just starting to be able to source rough and stones again, so maybe shoot him an email with your price and what you want and see what he says.

You should always get a reputable lab report when purchasing a yellow sapphire of significant value. That is one of the most commonly chemically enhanced colors of corundum, as well as the myriad of synthetics out in the marketplace.

Thank you! I’m trying to decide exactly what shape I want but I’ll definitely reach out once I ready! Your ring is stunning!
