I'm not really active on PS but I'd like to share my good news... We're engaged !!! I've been on tne LIW list since February.
I don't really have a proposal story like what others have shared here.. but here goes...
First of all, it's not a surprise, I already knew he's coming with the ring this past weekend (we're a long distance couple). I also was not expecting any romantic proposal, he's just not that kind of guy.. we picked the ring together.. had we bought it at a B&M store, he'd probably just hand it to me out of the store I was joking to my girlfriends earlier that I would ask for the ring as soon as I see him at the airport. If he forgets to bring it, I would send him back to Texas
So Friday morning I called him to say "Have you got everything packed Honey ?"
He arrived here around 9PM. When I saw him coming down on the elevator smiling with a backpack and his laptop briefcase, the first thing that crossed my mind was, where did he put the ring ? :p backpack, briefcase, or his pocket ?
He wanted to drive so I hopped on the passenger side and he gave me his backpack and he tried to scare me by saying, "Oh no, the zipper is open, go check if IT's still there" So I put my hand in his backpack trying to find "it". Took me a few seconds and I felt the ring box. I said, "Ok, it's still there" and I put the backpack in the backseat. He's like, "Don't you want to see it now?" I told him that I want him to ask me properly and slide the ring on my finger later, not right there in the parking lot :p We stopped by a little Vietnamese restaurant for a late dinner. Again he asked me, "Are you sure you don't want it now ?" Have I mentioned that he's the most unromantic guy in the world ?
We got home pretty late, around 11.30pm and I went to my computer right away. I was burning a DVD before I left to the airport so I was just checking if it finished OK and I also checked my emails and stuffs. And then he came up behind me and popped the question! Hehe I now don't remember whether I said Yes or not, he put it on my finger right away.
The next day we went to a friend's house for a dinner party. Everyone was congratulating us and all of my girlfriends commented how big the diamond is. It's a 0.80 carat, so it's really not big (probably small for PS'ers) and my finger size is also quite big so I thought it would make the rock look smaller. But it is considered BIG among my friends. 3 of them are marrried but they never received an e-ring; it's just not big in our culture - we're all asians from different countries. The rest of my friends are single, all in serious relationships, but they haven't any clue about diamonds. So to them my diamond looks huge.
And then the host took every opportunity to introduce us as an engaged couple. It's funny. She kept saying, "This is Vera and this is her fiance." Or "This is H and this is Vera. They're engaged" LOL.
His mom will officially asked my parents for my hand in marriage next month. They're still working on a date to get together. He was planning to call my mom (in Indonesia) too while he was here but we didn't have time because of the short weekend. Only then they'll talk about the wedding planning I guess. So for now I can only say it will be sometime next year
