Oh My Lord!!!!

Okay not exactly on topic here but does anyone here like Dorothy Parker?
emsmileo.gif
She has been my favorite author since I was in eighth grade and anyone who is a fan knows about the Algonquin Round Table where some of the best and most brilliant minds met. So how could I not nearly jump out of my skin when the May/June 2005 issue of Brides that the Algonquin Hotel in NYC is doing a special proposal thing.
emsmileo.gif
Okay it would not be my thing (buying a ring on the fly and having it served in a martini). But oh I do love her stuff and thus the hotel. There are several great books written about the stunts pulled there and I think it would be a brilliant place to get engaged…

Okay again not related to the are we there yet thing ...I am allowed to day dream right?

I play board games with my BF all of the time four hours each time we see other. In the land of hopes and dream I would love for him to ask me with a board game but it seems unlikely. I just think it would be soo cute if he spelled out a wedding words all over a Scrabble board or if we were playing Monopoly and he asked when I landed on the luxury tax square (it is a picture of a diamond engagement ring). So my fellow LIW if you could think of the perfect way to get engaged what would it be?

At this point I''m dreaming of any ole'' way...

But I wanted to share a cute story of how my friend was proposed to:

Her and her then boyfriend were at this place in NYC called Our Name is Mudd... it''s a place where you can make/paint pottery such as ashtrays, cups... simple things. So, they went there to make Christmas presents for their families. The boyfriend was painting a picture frame for his mother when he turned it around to let my friend look at his progress. Around the edges were written, ''C, Will You Marry Me?'' and the date on the bottom. She was so shocked! He had brought a camera along and had someone take a picture of them after the proposal. The picture of them showing off her new ring still sits in that frame. So cute!

anything involving a beach and ocean

There are one or two specific beaches that have special meaning to b/f''s and my relationship, so I suppose my dream proposal would involve one of those places. But really, any beach would be excellent!!

My husband did the restaurant-at-the-beach-overlooking-the-bay proposal. The restaurant had an outside patio right on the water and he proposed on bended knee in front of everyone...the funny thing was none of the other patrons even seemed to notice!
36.gif

I would walk in the door after work and he would sweep me off my feet, cover me with kisses and say that he can''t wait to spend the rest of his life with me and have it be official, please won''t I marry him. Pretty simple really.

*BUMP*....guy friends looking for advice....I hate to admit but I am stealing from you ladies!

send them to the proposal ideas forum??? there are lots of great stories and ideas there. my best advice to them is to look for things that are special to them, their relationship, their girl... and go from there.

personally, i don''t have a dream proposal really. i honestly don''t even want to think about it and get some preconceived idea in my head about what it should be. my dream proposal is any that comes from my bf with his love, thought, and care (so cheesey!)

My FI hit the nail on the head with my proposal.....he knows me I guess! When we were early in our relationship he took me to meet his whole family in Vegas. ( they are scattered through the US) WE HAD A BLAST, kind of sealed the deal for me- I knew from the first date he was the one- he said that he knew the first time he heard my voice
30.gif
anyway.... the last night we were all there we went to the Voodo Lounge at the Rio hotel, and had an awesome time! We went out on the patio and the told me he loved me for the first time ( this patio is AMAZING, it is 51 or 52 stories up and overlooks the whole of Vegas) it was so awesome, we both cried.
39.gif
So from that point on I daydreamed about him asking me the same place he told me he loved me for the first time. I MEAN HOW PERFECT WOULD THAT BE? But I kept telling myself to be realistic- Like that would happen. We planned our trip to Vegas the following year (July of 04) and ended up being there on the weekend of our 1 year ann., I am obvilious to this- I am not good with dates
20.gif
He takes all of our friends and fam, and guess what? The last night there we make our way to the Voodo Lounge, he takes me outside with everyone and says "hey babe, what is that" and points behind me and I turn and look and then turn around to ask "look at what?" and he is on his knee with my ring......

My prince Charming-

I also used to have this whole thing about a prince on a white horse..... :) heheheheee

He he...mine was always soemthing quiet no one around jus us walking hand and hand...but now that seems like I would guess what was happening. And I want to connect more with my day to day life. I love the idea of being in the middle of an acitivity that I will repeat on a regular basis so I can get that little thrill over and over again.
30.gif
I hav loved reading about people gettin engaged while they sit on their couch or while they are getting ready for the evening, and HK2) was super cute. I adore reading everyones ideas and joyful memories. I read on another post that 80% were unhappy with how they were proposed to.
39.gif
I cant imagien being unhappy. So here is another questin for all the ladies on PS, what would have been/would be the worst way for your man to propose?
11.gif

I think the way that would make my heart melt is if he slipped the ring on my finger in my sleep. That way, no matter what time I woke up and noticed (9am, 2:38am) I would certainly wake him up. In his cute ....what time is it? where am I? sleepy face he would smile and ask me to be his wife.

Erin, that is completely adorable. I would love that too!

I hate to admit to having a dream proposal b/c I am bad about being disappointed if things don''t happen a certain way. However
9.gif
, I do. I have promised myself though that no matter what, I will be happy b/c it''s him. I know it''s cheesy but... So here goes--> He and I spent a day at this gorgeous garden last summer. It was a great day. It started raining after we''d been there a short time so we got wet walking around for awhile. Then we left to buy an umbrella but then it finally stopped raining so we went back. We had a lot of fun and one of my favorite memories with him. It was such a beautiful place and just took my breath away. While we were there, he even stopped someone and asked if they do weddings there. I tried not to react to that! Actually, it''s my ideal location to get married. So, it would just be perfect if we were there again and he picked some fabulous spot and popped the question.
30.gif
Then we had the ceremony and reception there.

Well, I just really want it to be outside and private. I have a thing for water and the only times I''ve really felt that "This is where I want you to propose to me" moments were on a beach in Maine (it was COOOOOLLLLLDDDD) and near a lake in Madison, WI, (also cold).

So this summer we''re going to a wedding in San Diego and then on our own little trip up the coast of CA. I think that gives him a million places where it would feel right, especially since we''ve talked about getting married in Napa. If he proposed before we got there, say in Monterrey or Carmel, our trip to Napa could be "what about here?" He says he has a plan. I just hope that''s it.

I have two dream proposals. The first is to be whisked away to NYC and for him to propose in Central Park at Belvadere Castle. We''re both originally from NE PA and our first date was a day in NYC. We spent much of the day in the Park at the castle and I couldn''t think of a better place to get engaged. The second senario is in England at his grandmother''s farm. The name of the farm is "Brooke" which is also my first name!

A proposal period would be my dream proposal
2.gif
My bigger issue is if he chose a ring without me to make it all a surprise! Either propose without a ring and we''ll go shopping later. Or go shopping together and make a surprise proposal once you have the ring in your grubby paws. Both 100x better than the girl not liking the ring because you planned a surprise! Anyways, I know that wasn''t what you were looking for but my thoughts on the situation right now

Sorry to post again but I just thought of my friends proposal and how adorable it was! (I''m going to her wedding this June). They have a safe in their bedroom where they had been saving money for the ering and wedding knowing it was going to happen one day. Well she gets home from work and BF is already there sitting on the couch. She gets some dinner and sits down to watch TV with him. After she finished eating he tells her to go check the money in the safe. And she is completely puzzled "What, what for!?!?!?" Poor R. "hun just go check the money in the safe to make sure its there and stuff, please" L. is getting irritated, she had a hard day at work, why should she get up tro go do such a silly thing!. "No you do it yourself!". R."Hun just please go do it and don''t ask me why, just go check the safe". Reluctantly she gets up and goes into the bedroom. The safe is open and on the top shelf is the ering in the box opened. Right above is a postit note that reads "Pookie, will you marry me?" L. was floored. She takes the ring and slinks around the bedroom door where he is waiting patiently, bright red. It was sooooo adorable!

What a great old thread! Thanks for bring it back Amy!

Well, the pool table thing from the dream thread would be cool. My other top two favorites would be
1) A fake geocache. We had so much fun geocaching together that first day and it''s a special thing. Can you imagine? Go hunting around to find a cache hidden somewhere, and open it up to find a ring box inside of it? I get such a surge of excitment whenever I finally spot a cache anyway. And we could post the location later and make it a regular geocache.

2) On a moonlit beach. We''re going to Rhodes, Greece in april for paper he''s presenting at a conference. Can''t you just imagine it? Go for a walk barefoot on the beach, walking hand in hand listening to the surf, and keeping hold of my hand he suddenly stops and goes down on one knee. And asks ''Will you marry me and be mine forever?". *sigh*
30.gif

Hey again, Wren! I''m a geocacher too, go figure. I was goofing off one day and googled "geocaching proposal" and came up with a few hits, of people who''d actually done it. I like this one: The great proposal. The guy went so far as to have a friend hide and take pics of the whole search.

You know, I think more women should propose...we have so many fantastic ideas that guys never have a clue about!

I just love the pictures. It was such a romantic story!

I''m with AmandaPanda, any old way would be fine with me at this point.

But if I could dream...

We''re going to Disneyland with my sister and her bf (my sis and I love all things Disney), and we have a great day walking around, going on rides, eating junk food, just enjoying ourselves. It''s a gorgeous day, and around sunset, we decide to walk to Main Street to get dinner. As we''re walking past Sleeping Beauty castle, we decide to take one of those cheesy photos in front of the castle, in the late afternoon sunlight. So my bf and I start to pose for the photographer when he suddenly gets down on one knee and proposes, and the photographer captures the moment of surprise forever.....

Sigh....a girl can dream.....

my boyfriend and i have done some geocaches too.. it is soo fun! what a cute proposal... it is soo sweet when the proposer takes a bit of extra time to do something special. Well i guess either way just the two of you at home in bed or something extravagant.. it is still super sweet!

what exactly is geocaching? Sounds like fun!!!!!

M~

It''s a modern-day version of a treasure chest hunt with gps units instead of a map. You''re given gps co-ordinates, and a few encrytped clues. With that you have to find some sort of cache hidden away without any muggle noticing you. The caches can be anything from ammo boxes, tupperware, and even film cannisters. Inside the boxes are ''treasures'' and a log book. You sign the book and take something and leave something. Then you hide the cache again for the next person.
Very fun. I like the ones involving a hike.

That sounds like so much fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My BF and I are "outdoor" people and this sounds like a great way to be outside and have fun!!!. We also both love hiking!. So how do I get started? How do I find the clues and find out which ones include a hike?. I don''t have a GPS yet but can get one for my birthday

Go to www.geocaching.com, and sign up for a free account. Then you can search by zipcode, city, etc. for nearby caches, and you''ll get a list with the coordinates and clues. It''s awesome, you''ll love it! I''ve discovered so many cool places I never knew existed. My username over there is Selkie, too.

A little update, when he proposed (12/17/05) he put the ring in the Scrabble letter bag....it was truely perfection.
face23.gif
I am so blessed to have him in my life, everyday I more amazed the level of love and devotion he shows me.

Matatora that sounds like a great proposal!!!!!!! How cute!!

I don''t think my BF is very creative...but who knows! maybe he''ll surprise me!
