“He went to Jared!”
Jared is the fourth largest specialty retailer in the USA, operating more than 200 stores across the USA. The flagship store for mega-corporation Signet Jewelers, Jared’s freestanding locations were designed to sell higher quality offerings than its sister chain stores Zales, Kay Jewelers and Diamonds Direct. In keeping with this quality proposition, Jared’s sales professionals undergo training which is more thorough than other Signet locations. Jared stores typically have a bench jeweler onsite to perform minor repairs and, more recently, they are operating in partnership with e-commerce giant, JamesAllen.com.
A Step-Up Store
Jared was established in 1993. Created to represent a step-up in quality and variety from common chain stores found in malls across the USA, Jared pulled in a variety of respected designer brands and curated gemstone and jewelry collections. Their freestanding locations offer proximity parking and walk-in repair services. They launched memorable media campaigns using the tagline “It can only be Jared.”, which eventually changed to “He went to Jared.” These initiatives, aimed to popularize Jared stores, were highly effective. By 2015, Jared stores accounted for more than 20% of Signet’s total sales, with annual revenue of over $1 billion.
Jared stores feature a wide variety of products, from loose, unbranded natural and lab-grown diamonds to dozens of finished jewelry collections and branded products at a wide variety of price points.
Signet purchased JamesAllen.com in 2017. By 2020, the e-commerce giant’s loose diamond inventory and certain settings were made available on Jared.com and in Jared brick-and-mortar locations, opening a multichannel experience for customers of both brands.
Jared offers the same images and supplemental information for loose lab-grown and natural diamonds as sister company JamesAllen.com. In addition to high-resolution magnified images and videos for tens of thousands of loose stones, users can filter cut quality to identify diamonds in JamesAllen.com “True Hearts” collection, which conform to a notably higher standard of cut quality than other chain store brands.
Whiteflash, Blue Nile and James Allen offer extensive inventories of quality diamonds, complete with high-res imaging and videos and diamond certificates. Their business practices are transparent, and their commitment to consumer education is outstanding.
Jared offers natural diamonds graded by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and lab-grown diamonds graded by the International Gemological Institute (IGI). Certain natural round and fancy shapes of diamonds may come with grading reports from the American Gem Society (AGS).
The Jared website is fast and responsive. The abundant range of products the company offers is user-friendly and navigable, with strong photo representation across all product lines.
The True Hearts™ collection, established by sister company JamesAllen.com, is curated according to a higher standard of light return, diamond performance, and optical precision. When shopping, be advised that diamonds that appear on Jared’s website may also be posted for sales on the JamesAllen.com website at lower prices.
We have an excellent tool to help you find the perfect cut quality diamonds for your ring. Browse over 1 million loose diamonds, specifying entirely what’s important to you.
Jared’s Chosen brand includes near-colorless and colorless natural and lab-grown diamonds, a collection of Royal Asscher pieces, Italian gold jewelry line Italia d’ Oro, and other curated settings.
Loose diamonds listed on the Jared.com website can routinely be found for lower prices on the JamesAllen.com website. JamesAllen.com does not post laboratory grading reports for their natural diamonds, so some light sleuthing (comparing 4Cs and photos) is required to correctly match a Jared.com diamond listing to the same diamond on JamesAllen.com, but savvy consumers will be happy to know any Jared location will honor the JamesAllen.com price and will still include the local in-store benefits package.
The staggering number of generic and branded items Jared offers means you can find items spanning a wide range of pricing and quality. For example, “Emerald Jewelry” items range from a tiny lab-created Emerald Pendant, offered for $100, to a 2+ carat Le Vian Natural Emerald Ring selling for more than $150,000.
Jared has a colorful array of pearl and gemstone jewelry – including laboratory-created gemstone jewelry with lab-grown diamond accents – set into rings, earrings, necklaces, and pendants.
Jared offers hundreds of items for less than $99, including sterling silver charms starting for around $25.
Jared offers personalization on gemstone jewelry, engagement and wedding rings, and bracelets as well as money clips and tie-bars.
Jared has access to an impressive inventory of unbranded diamonds, gemstones, and jewelry, as well as a wide variety of branded diamonds and jewelry collections, supplemented with timepieces, charms, and jewelry accessories. Each location offers jewelry cleaning and repair.
If you don’t mind paying a brick-and-mortar premium over e-commerce for loose diamonds and settings or just doing some light sleuthing to take advantage of their price-match policy, Jared has folded the variety and affordability of one of the world’s most successful e-commerce sellers into its own portfolio, offering all the advantages of e-commerce, paired with a local walk-in provider.
