A group linked to the Kremlin helped spread Princess Catherine conspiracy theories… why is this not a surprise?

(The link should be good to get you past the NYT paywall, though only for one week.)

disgusting that HRH's hand was forced by a potential leak, to have to tell the world her very private bussiness

The Princess of Wales was reportedly forced to disclose her cancer diagnosis before a possible leak by a secondary source.

A “well-placed source” has revealed to the Daily Mail that Kensington Palace rushed the video announcement after someone contacted the royal family about Kate Middleton’s diagnosis.

The timing of the video had nothing to do with the conspiracy theories or the speculations about her disappearance from the public eye, the source told Daily Mail’s Ephraim Hardcastle column.

However, it is unclear whether the leak originated from the London Clinic where the princess underwent her abdominal surgery or from somewhere else, Daily Mail reported.

Kensington Palace released a personal video
message from the Princess of Wales on March 23 revealing that she was undergoing preventative chemotherapy for cancer.

The exact form of her cancer has still not been revealed to the public.
In the video message, she said the cancer was discovered through tests following her abdominal surgery in January.

“In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London, and at the time it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous.

“The surgery was successful. However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy, and I am now in the early stages of that treatment.

“I am well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal in my mind, body and spirits,” she added.

The news came less than two months after King Charles was revealed to have been diagnosed with an unspecified type of cancer.

She was supposed to resume her duties after Easter. April is half over and we haven't seen her. This is bad--I'm afraid she is REALLY ill and keeping it under wraps.

Whatever her condition, my heart goes out to her entire family

Chemo is not a walk in the park, and with her history of hyperemesis gravidarum, I think it is more likely that she is just not feeling well. Or maybe she has lost her hair, and doesn't want to face the firestorm of rag gossip sheets talking about her wig... or weight loss,...or her appearance.

I think the back at work after the Easter break was to do with the recovery of the planned surgery. But then they found cancer & chemo commenced, so that’s a whole different ball game.

I really hope she is doing ok & think of her often. All those suffering from cancer really do go through it & it’s heartbreaking.

I wish the tabs would just leave her alone. They have three little children and a sick mom. The last thing she should worry about is explaining to a rabid press what is wrong with her. Give the woman and her family time to heal.

It’s no one else’s business, I agree. I am really starting to get worried about her, though. :(

I believe a couple of her inner circle friends have revealed this weekend that she is expected back to work in the late Autumn, but I cannot verify that story.

I didn't realize that she still hasn't been seen in public yet.
Across the pond, I don't think we obsess about the royals very much at all.

Poor kid, when she finally does return to the public eye, the media will be whipped into a frenzy. They will scrutinize and pick her apart like rabid dogs.
That must be weighing on her.

i feel very sorry for HRH
she was always very slim but she might be even more slim now with her treatment, she may have lost her hair or she may just feel cra**p, who would want the words media looking at you when you feel like that ?
Im sure her mum is looking after her ( a parents worst nightmare no matter how old the child)
of course i miss the Princess, but as a wife and mother she needs to rest and recover and take all the time she needs to get better

Interesting. Everything I’ve seen in news reports says she probably won’t be see again before the end of 2024! That’s another 6.5 months…

I hope she is doing okay. In her video she said it was "preventative" chemo. I know that can still make you weak and affect your hair, but hopefully those are the only issues she is having and the "preventative" is preventing.

i think no body really knows except the people closed to the Princess who really need to know
none of her friends have ever spoken out for her before so im taking these 'friends' with a grain of salt,
i follow the British tabloid press purely for the photos of royal events and they are hardly known for their accuracy of reporting, i find basic mistakes (and porky pies) every day

I do take what the press says with a grain of salt; I’m quite familiar with media spin. But since there are those who become extremely defensive when anyone questions the well-being of those representing the throne, I’ll do as strongly recommended and shut up.

Fwiw there is no such thing as "preventative chemo". It wouldn't do anything. Chemo is too hard on the body and is specifically done to kill cancer cells. So if there wasn't reason to do it, they wouldn't be. My guess is she had a tumor and they *think* they got it all w clean margins, but did chemo just in case any was missed. But since that sounds scary they said "preventative".

I agree - chemo treats, it doesn’t prevent.

I understand and didn't mean to suggest that she wasn't already found to have cancer, but that the chemo is to "prevent" it from coming back. My understanding is that preventive chemotherapy (or adjuvant chemotherapy) is chemotherapy given to destroy any remaining cancer cells in the body after primary cancer treatment. Its goal is to prevent cancer from coming back. My only point was that I hope her only side effects from the chemo are weakness and perhaps hair loss and that the chemo does it's job to prevent recurrence.

Agreed. I feel badly for her and her family
