It all started with a simple concept - wedding set from BGD

My engagement ring story all started with a simple concept. My FI wanted a wedding set that didn''t look like two separate rings when worn together. Influenced by the sine wave, he created the design below. Obviously he didn''t know anything about metal properties or diamond sizes so the drawing is very skewed.

The problem was that we didn''t know how to achieve his drawing without it being a single ring. The idea took a back seat to saving for the ring. I started researching diamonds as I knew just the very basics. Of course when one starts, one inevitably stumbles upon pricescope. Lurking and reading, I learned everything I could to make an informed decision on our purchase.

We settled on Brian Gavin since he was just a few hours drive away and there were so many compliments on his work. That many people can''t be wrong, right? So I made an appointment to see him with a list of stones around the 1-1.2 ct range from G-J colors, so I could see if I could notice subtle differences.

Right before my meeting, rhbgirl24 posted in the SMTR section about her sister''s ring which outstanding feature was the reverse cradle. I showed my FI, and we knew that was how we could achieve the look he initially wanted. We then did a revised drawing to show Brian on our visit.

In our meeting we decided to get a 1.168 J SI1 that was the lowest price and the largest among our list. All of the diamonds were gorgeous so I went with the largest one. :) I paid for the diamond and left it with Brian as his team got to work on the setting given our drawing/specifications.

About 3 weeks later Brian came back with the below CADs and renderings. We were very stunned at how they came out and were very excited that our ring project was closer to being real.

Here are some of the glamor shots of our ring which look even better than the CADs, and still do not do justice to the ring in person.

Some hand shots. I have fairly plump fingers. The wedding band is 8.25 and the engagement ring is 8.5, though when it''s turned on its side, it is much larger.

How the rings look worn separately.

That''s all for now :)

Such a unique design, and a creative solution to the problem of not wanting a set of two distinct rings

. I especially like that the band is brushed while the Ering is polished.

Congratulations!

Thank you yssie! I like that we got that contrast too. It was at Brian''s suggestion. That man sure knows what he''s talking about.

Wow, your ring is so lovely and unique!

Beautifully executed and unique! I love it. And it is such a flattering style on your hand! I have fingers that range from size 7.75 to 8.5 depending on the width of the ring and the weather, and I know how hard it is to find a ring that is comfortable and proportioned correctly -- BGD did a great job.

like a puzzle! how neat. and i like how you can wear them separately if you''d like.
