June Birthstone: Pearl 2018

June birthday girls stand up! You’re doubly lucky because you get not one but two birthstones for your birth month. That’s right, you can call Alexandrite and Pearl your own. Pearls tend to be the chosen stone for June babies, so we’re going to focus our attention on this long-lasting favorite stone. We’re going to pull the curtain back a bit and discover what makes this stone a favorite of people born in June.

Pearls. Is there a reason they have been so popular throughout history? We think so. It is said that pearls convey wisdom, clarity and purity to the wearer. Seeing that pearls were a favorite stone of royals throughout the world, we should hope that some of that magic helped them when making decisions.

The stones have always been valuable, even more so now that it is harder to find natural pearls. As a result, the industry has shifted to creating cultured pearls to keep up with demand. If you are able to own natural pearls then you’re truly lucky (and blessed with deep pockets) and should never part with them!

You’re even more blessed if you can find a perfectly round pearl. Pearls come in many shapes and sizes, and much like diamonds, the different sizes are becoming more popular. If you want to get ahead of the trend, look for teardrop, oval and button pearls before the prices cost just as much as round pearls.

Pearls are created with a lustrous nacre – a hardened layer which the oyster builds around the irritant to protect it, creating a pearl in the process – which enables them to withstand the daily bumps and knocks of everyday life. However, they aren’t the strongest stone which is why it is best to avoid wearing them in rings except for the occasional special event.

Pearls are beauty personified. It is one of the most beautiful ways Mother Nature turns a negative into a positive. Maybe that’s the real power of your birthstone June babies. We can all use this beautiful, birthstone in our life, today and the other months of the year.
