For others considering the same specs with faint fluorescence. This is from Blue Nile:

Beautiful! It looks stunning on you!

Turned out so well!! Love that setting! and your diamond is fabulous!!!

It's beautiful, congratulations :wavey:

Maximus! I posted a few days ago wondering where you were, because I was dying to know if you liked your replacement diamond! Well, do you? How does it compare to the original? And, did you go on your cruise and do we assume you are now engaged? If so, was she wowed by the diamond? Sorry for all the questions, but it's just nice to know how the story ends! I'd love to hear about your reaction when you saw the replacement diamond. Did you like it?

Hi hi... thanks for your concern!

I can't really compare it to the original cause I never got to see that one. Sad that I don't really have strong fluorescence to play around with. Oh well.

But this one sparkles nicely and I am fine with it. Only issue is I am not able to see a lot of the inclusions and certainly not enough to be able to match those inclusions with the plot chart on the GIA cert. Without laser inscription, I am a bit concern that this is not the diamond that I ordered. But many people assured me that a diamond switch from Blue Nile has never happened before.

Nope... my cruise is in September so I still have time to play around with it. I wanted to order early in case I needed to return it. From the looks of it, unless this is not the diamond on the GIA cert, I will keep this ring for the proposal.

Wow, what a beauty! She will love it!

Looks great. Glad it all worked out.

Can you take a black light photo? Have you looked at it under the black light?

Beautiful setting! I love how it looks!!!! Just stunning!

Yes I have. Very faint fluorescence unfortunately.

It looks beautiful!!!! Good luck with your proposal!!

It's a stunning ring.

What a sparkly ring!! I love the engraving.

Glad you like it! It looks beautiful in the pix. And 1.6 is such a nice size. She's going to love it. Looks so white, too!

I love it! Very beautiful setting, too!

Let's try two more photos. :wink2:

It's beautiful! It falls into AGS triple 000 cut parameters, doesn't it? I bet it's got quite the sparkle! Does she have any idea that the proposal is coming? I can't believe all the work you put into finding the right diamond!

Haha... thank you. I wasn't happy with the flower background pictures so I took some more while I was walking my dog earlier today.

Based on AGS parameters, it should fall into triple 000 ideal range but it is not graded by AGS, only GIA. Which means it could still fail on light performance test. But I have seen it sparkle and am satisfied that it performs well compared to the videos I have seen online on excellent cut diamonds.

No... I don't think she has any idea of the proposal plan... though we have been talking about marriage and big life decisions like house and children.... they have always seemed like plans that are much further along the horizon.

I usually put in loads of effort for any purchase above 1k. Worth it considering the overall price. Of course, as you know... it is also by taking advantage of the debacle by Blue Nile.. getting the best deal I can given the circumstances... end of with a discount of 7.5% than what they would have sold the ring for... matching the price of my original 1.51ct H-color diamond. To be honest... I still miss the fluorescence in my original diamond! But I am a big boy and I guess I will get over it.

To be even more honest... my initial impression of the ring was relatively underwhelming! Haha. Funny how zoomed in pictures and pictures in your mind always make people think the rock is bigger than it really is! Oh well. Only when I see my own pictures of the ring was I convinced that my rock is indeed a 1.6ct! Haha.

At least I can now get this out of the way and worry about my work (have to earn the ring and trip money!) and my upcoming trip. Now... all that is left is Nature! Keeping my fingers crossed that the aurora lights will show up!!

It looks great!

Diamonds are objectively quite small objects. Compared to, say, a bread box ;)) But once it is on your future fiance's hand it will look much larger to you, trust me!

Do you plan to have an appraiser look at it to match it to the clarity plot? It will set your mind at ease (though I am not really worried, BN is very reputable). Still, you will need an appraisal to insure the ring.

I am still unable to spot enough of the inclusions to match the plot chart... but since I can spot some now... I should be able to identify my diamond from others if required.

I am not too sure about sending it to an appraiser though. As long as it is indeed the diamond that I paid for, which as you said, BN is very reputable, then I should be fine with it. I don't think getting the ring insured is that big of a thing over here. Crime rates are very low in my part of the world (so left and robbery is very remote events) and the probability of her losing the ring is also low since I am pretty sure she will end of wearing it inside with the ring she is already wearing now.

Any other reason why I should get the ring insured? I have watches displayed on my watch winder that probably cost more combined. Never insured them either.

Damage. If something should happen to the ring or diamond (God forbid) insurance covers the replacement.

I think for the ring that you got insurance should be relatively inexpensive.

Errmm... I was thinking of just chancing it. If something really did happen... then it is an excuse to let her buy one that she picks out herself.

To me... the biggest risk by far is to bring it along with me to my upcoming cruise for the proposal. :errrr:

Good luck with the aurora lights!

I know you're still a little disappointed about the lack of fluoro, but at least you got a stone which is apparently superbly cut without paying the Signature line premium. I think that's quite a result! After all, it's the sparkle from the cut that you'll see every day, not the fluoro. In the future, perhaps you'll buy her a diamond pendant or some such, and perhaps that stone could have the desired fluoro!

In terms of taking the ring on the cruise, I believe many ships have safes in the cabins.

Err... the safe is not an option for me... at least until I propose. She will likely keep our passports in there from day 1 so the last thing I want is for her to ask..."what is in this box?". :errrr:
