I think you should just keep the rock, get it set in a nice setting, and leave negative feedback. It''s just too risky to return. I am with Rich on this one. The seller has demonstrated many times that he cannot and should not be trusted, and will probably claim that you switched the diamond on him if you leave negative feedback.

You said you liked the way the rock looks, you were happy with it until you realized it wasn''t a good deal anymore.

Next time you buy on ebay, use paypal for at least SOME protection on a purchase this big.

Well, PRC, at this point it is a judgment call on your part. You have certainly heard both sides of the coin - keep it and know that you got a stone for a reasonably fair price - or send it back and risk losing everything. If there is an emotional part of buying a ring (and there always is) that''s totally blown now. That ring will always represent a problem in your mind.

I''m sorry that you are in this situation but you generally only get what you pay for. There are some great deals in life but they are very few and far between. If you get your money back, I am sure that you will be very successful in buying a great stone from the vendors here. Not a steal - just a fair price for a well cut stone!

Thanks again everyone! So much food for thought.

My logic with getting the appraisal was - if this ring is what the seller promised, we''ll keep it and know we got a good deal. If the appraisal shows we were misled, then what do we do? Send the ring back? Keep it and make sure I don''t get my hand near fire, blow torches or acid so I don''t damage the enhancement? I asked the seller if the ring was clarity enhanced and he said no. He hasn''t told me the name of the appraiser.
I would hope that you''d keep your hand away from all that stuff even without a diamond on your finger.

Now this is wise advice that we can all agree on! (Why does this forum not have the ROTFL emoticon when you need it!)

Just curious. Did you send the ring back? I hope it all turns out well. It is a shame to have all this stress at what should be such a happy time.

WOW I missed alot! Nothing more I can add than what has been said. But I am truly sorry about this horrifying experience! $3500 is nothing to gawk at and I think it is horrendous that the seller would be so blantantly misleading. I hope you are able to find some common ground with this idiot (yes I think con artists are idiots)and get your money back in a timely fashion. Goodluck!

PRC...any updates??? Did you send it back? Have you heard from the seller again?
I wish you alot of luck whatever you decided!

Hello again everyone! We sent the ring back to the seller this morning via overnight mail. He should receive it tomorrow and has said he will mail us a business check via regular mail within 5 days of receipt. Since he''s in California, it may take 2 weeks to get the refund. He will have to sign for it and I have a tracking number to make sure it is received and we''re corresponding through Ebay''s Dispute Console so at least they have a record of what he has agreed to do. We''re still apprehensive about getting the refund but the ring had become such a sticking point in our relationship that we decided we really didn''t want to keep it -- although we strongly debated it. I''ll let you know what happens. In the meantime, keep your fingers crossed that it all works out OK. Thanks for all the help!

Pam

Pam...

sorry you had to go through this. I will keep my fingers crossed that everything turns out ok. Once you get your $$$ back, then you can (with ease) look for your perfect ring again. I got mine through WF is that helps.

I think you made the right decision for you. Even if you felt the ring was "acceptable" it would still represent such an upleasant experience.
Now, hopefully, you can start afresh with one of the highly regarded vendors here and have a haappy and problem free experience. I too bought my ring from Whiteflash and it was a delght to work with Lesley. Best of luck to you both.

At least Ebay is involved and is aware that he is suppose to send your money back to you. My only fear is that he''s going to claim it isn''t the same ring that he sent you. My fingers are crossed for you. Keep us updated!

Crossing my fingers for you!

I hope everything works out but I am not so optimistic - why does it take him 5 days to send money?

It does appear that this vendor is able to sell his wares successfully on Ebay. There were 43 bids on this item.
I believe that since Ebay is involved he will have to comply if he wants to continue selling there.

I see he is trying to open a store, (doesn''t have anything listed yet).

That''s a good sign, I think. :)

Girl I asked you what State he was from. I am a Cali girl I coulda been your escrow. Well me and my 6 foot 2 stong bf! Hope it all works out and next time listen to your older and wiser sisters. Remember Ebay is for buying concert tix and waffles with the image of Jesus on them.

Yeah, you would think someone who seems to use eBay so much for business reasons wouldn''t want to jeopardize his eBay account.

Hope it all works out, prc. At least we all learned a valuable lesson from this: you get what you pay for.

prc, I''m keeping everything crossed for you and really hope you get your money back. I strongly advise you to work with a PS vendor when you are ready to start again, they are genuine, helpful and reputable and you definitely get what you pay for. I know the quality of my diamond from WF was far more than I expected.

Thanks guys and ladies! I have everything crossed too! The ring should have reached the seller today. Just checked his new "store" and he''s selling the same ring (same specs/size/color/"clarity" etc.) the ring in an auction ending in 30 min. Right now, the bid price is a little over $2000. Hopefully, he''s raising some money for my refund...

Good luck - keep us posted!

Did he still lie about the clarity enhancement? I hope you leave a scathing negative after the check clears. I don't care if you got money back. He is a crook.

kimberly - of course he did.... seems he used the same exact ad we bid on. would have loved to have used you and your BF for escrow! thanks for offering!

That really upsets me that some one else is being duped.

Again after your money gets back please have the courage to warn others by leaving the truth on the feedback.

Hey Pam...any updates? Have you had any contact through ebay? Did you receive your money? Just curious...we haven''t heard anything from you in a while. I sure hope you don''t have to argue this out with ebay and such. I really hope he takes the ring back and is honest enough at least to give you the money. Let us know...

it looks like the seller already resold it and shipped it off to the new buyer and he received + feedback for the transaction.

Pam, have you received your money yet?

It looks like the guy he sold it to buys lots of diamonds. I think he needs to be pulled from ebay.

Hello Small, Pinkflamingo, Kimberly and the rest of the forum....

The person who bought the ring was bidding against us originally and they did pay $250 less than we paid. The seller didn''t seem to change the description and the transaction date is the same date we had like he went back to one of the other bidders after we returned it.

We sent the ring via overnight mail last week and, via Ebay''s dispute console, I communicated with the vendor who agreed to pay us $3400 within 5 days (minus his actual costs of posting on Ebay, etc.) or the full amount paid within 14 days. We opted for the $3400 within 5 days because we are already nervous enough about getting the refund. Then he said that the 5 days meant 5 business days and he said he mailed a business check today which was the 5th business day. We asked him to send it overnight mail but he refused that also. He''s sending regular mail which will take another 7 days for us to get the check from Calif.... So, we''re waiting on pins and needles! Will let you know when we receive the check and it''s cashed and cleared.

Thanks for the update PRC..I hope it shows up sooner than expected..

Pam,
I really hope you do get your money back. What a mess and a jerk for not even giving you the decency to return as fast as you got the ring back to him.
Is the check suppose to be a cashiers check? If not, here is a couple of suggestions for you as I used to work in the banking industry for over 10 years.
Find out if the check is drawn on a bank in your area. Some people use banks that are all over the US so hopefully you''ll luck out and his bank is also in your vicinity. If it is...go to that bank and cash the check (they sometimes will give you a cashier check for no charge as they don''t want to give that much in large bills away). They may charge you a check cashing fee but it is definitely worth the 10-20 bucks to know you''ll have guaranteed funds. If the bank is not in your area before depositing the check ask your bank to call and verify funds. It would be awful to deposit the check and think everything is AOK and the funds not be in the account which wouldn''t surprise me with a guy like this. If you deposit and the check gets returned then you''ll have to pay a returned item fee. Even if the bank says the funds are available that doesn''t mean by the time the check actually clears his account that he won''t have taken it out. But it''s better than the alternative.
I hope you are getting a cashier check but if he refused you overnight mail then I''m sure he wouldn''t go to the bank and pay for a cashiers check either.
Good luck. Please let us know what happens!

That guy is a total jerk.
Please Please Please leave bad feedback.

Pam, I really hope this turns out ok. What a jerk. I hope you leave negative feedback. Hopefully it will save some people the trouble of dealing with him in the future.
