I'm looking at the yellow sapphire above from gemfix for an ering. Havent decided on the exact setting yet, but I'd like some educated opinions from you please on the stone itself.

Thank you,
Gannon

It looks very bright, but the culet appears to be off center, but perhaps it is the angle of the picture? There also seems to be a slight green secondary color to the stone in the hand shot. Are you okay with the appearance of light-colored sapphires? They can look glass-like compared to diamonds.

From the cut it looks to be a bit heavy in the backside. I wonder if that is to help with color?

In general I think yellow sapphires are some ofthe hardest gemstones to buy because they can look great or they can look like yellow plastic. I think you would need to see it in person to decide.

I think maybe a little of both? I think the second picture looks better. For my price range this seems to be one of the better stones I've seen though.

She did not want anything bordering orange, so it seems like I'm stuck with the lighter gems which she seems to be ok with.

Ok thanks. The thing I'm worried about is that even if I do get the stone in hand, I have no idea what I'm looking for in a quality stone. I guess I can always post pics for help though.

I assume that she is going to be part of the process? If so, order it and ask her to view it. I agree that pale sapphires can be tricky....while they may look like glass when light doesn't enter them directly, they can and will sparkle with direct light--but no stone is set to receive that light all the time. They can shift color with the green modifier which is not bad in my eye as it gives the stone multiple personalities. If, however, she wants a sparkler all the time........this may not be the right stone. That's why it's so important to see it in person. Good luck!

Do you absolutely need a sapphire, or will chrysoberyl do? It's similar in hardness, MUCH more sparkly, and will be significantly less expensive for this sort of colour. (As in, less than half the cost for a clean, well cut stone)
