I finally crossed another item off my wishlist Only 99 more goodies to go
I have wanted a garnet ring as my Mothers ring for several years. Both of my sons are January guys so one ring covers both of them
I started off wanting a tsav but never found one. I love red stones so I began to explore different types of red garnets.
I was hoping for a true red, with no pink or purple, in an asscher cut. I haunted CS and all of the gemcutters sites.
I decided to contact John at Gemrite after viewing a few stones on his site. He had some uncut Malaya material that was a nice red and offered to cut me an asscher shape stone with no obligation to buy if it wasn't right for me.
In June the stone was completed. It's 2.21ct VVS 6.79 X 6.79 X 5.63. He did a brilliant cut to the bottom so sparklies come up thru the stone from underneath. I was quite pleased with the cut, color and size and carried it around in my purse for three months contemplating how to set it. It does have a slight maybe brown modifier but in most lighting it looks pretty cherry red.
Very difficult to photograph the color accurately!
A local high end jeweler was having a sale, including many gorgeous settings a couple of weeks ago.
I spotted "my" setting right away! Exactly my style, platinum and with .58cts of F/VS Baguettes!!!
The setting was half off but would need the head changed to fit my stone. In all I still paid well under $1700 and am very happy with the craftsmanship. Even my DH, who has watched me return or trade jewelry lately has told me I would be insane to sell this ring
I also grabbed up two little micropave bands while there, .30cts each in 18k wg. Perfect for stacking & on sale!
Without further ado here she is: The Double D Ring (named after my DS's)
