I've not been able to find a stone the shade I like! I contacted Jeff White and he had a very light blue, but I think it was too light. I am searching again. Outside the ick factor of a UGL report, what do you guys think?

I think it is a bad idea to post any gemstone on PS with a link that you HAVE NOT PUT ON HOLD!!!!

I'm not an expert on sapphires at all, but I will say that I personally like the blue color but to me the price seems a little high for a heated sapphire with a UGL report. Just my .02cents. I would see if they would negotiate lower on the price. The 7k price is ridiculous to me!

For that price, I'd want an AGL, no "if's, and's, or but's."

UGL :knockout:

They want $2500 for it, not $7K, so at least it's reasonable, but I would still want an AGL that tests for diffusion. Heated can mean diffusion as well. I don't think UGL can test for diffusion, can they???

Yeah, I can't imagine them selling it for 7k! Is there another lab that can check for heat? I wonder if they will send it off.

You don't want to check it for heat, you already know its heated. You want to check it for foreign elements which are diffused into the stone during the heating process, like beryllium. I don't know how UGL grades their sapphires, but GIA and AGL will specifically state on the report if it was tested for foreign elements, and indicate the results of that test. This just says "heated" . . . um, okay. :?

Their treatments page says they don't carry diffused stones, but who knows. I will check the threads for gemsny and will ask them about sending it off for a cert. I do like the color very much.

Even with the sale price of $2K, it remains quite pricey for a 2 ct heated stone. I would definitely have the sale contingent on it coming back from AGL stating that it has not been diffused. Diffused stones are also heated, so their heated claim is truthful. I'm sorry but while they claim not to carry diffused stones, how would they know with only UGL certs? What I would also be curious about is the colour shift indoors as well.

Expensive for a 2ct. heated sapphire? So are you saying a 2ct. sapphire, unheated, should be that price? Do you have some to sell, with AGL reports?

Umm, it seems to me, Trigon, that you are dredging up an old thread to be contentious, as it appears you have done in most of your previous posts. So what I want to know is who do you work for? Could it be either Gemsny or UGL? Are you an appraisor of some sort? If you want to post, please check the attitude. Those who've been around stones for a while and post frequently on this board offer their advice to others. If you don't like it, ignore it, but don't take them on.

Trigon,
Most of us are not in the trade and so we don't sell but many have years of experience with gemstones, and some with formal training. In any case, if you look around the recommended vendor's links, many sell sapphires with listed prices, both heated and unheated of various qualities. You'll note that it is expensive for a 2 ct heated sapphire of this quality to be $2K. It is up to the buyer to decide if he/she wants an AGL cert. It is often recommended to check for diffusion if the stone is expensive and appears to be of fine quality. As always, trust but verify, more so with an "unknown" or rather unvetted vendor.
