Me three!

I've hijacked your thread though and don't have much to offer. They both look like great stones.

yes they both look great. I have talked with WF and both are eyeclean. Tough choice

I''d go with the second one since the table on the first seems small. As long as the SI1 is eye clean. Otherwise, the angles on both look good.

The only thing I can basically go off on the first one is the little spot highlighted that I can see. However WF assured me both are completely eyeclean. I think it might just be a coinflip for the 2

Hey! Are you a U of I alum or currently a student? I miss Cham-bana!

I like the second one a little better than the first as long as it is eyeclean and the inclusions are not visible from the side. I like the depth a little better than the first.

Not to hijack Agent''s thread, but Pebbles -- I had no idea you were an alum too! I''m class of ''96. How about you? Agent? Jason? Nice to have a little Illini contingency here.

Thanks pebbles. I am an alumn. Graduated 2004. Stayed down there until May of 2005. I miss it too. Luckily I made it to a few bball games this year and one other time to enjoy Murphy''s again.

God, I feel old! Class of 1993!

I used to work at Assembly Hall as an usher when I was a student. Most awesome job in the world! What happened to the basketball team this year?

My cousin is currently down there and she is not into basketball. I couldn't believe her! Blasphemy!

oh the bball team this year were up and down and up and down. Dee just had a real inconsistant shooting year.

Hehee....I meant my question about the basketball team to be a rhetorical question. I followed them, even in their loss against Washington. I had a feeling they wouldn''t do as good as last year.

yeah tough to repeat last years success. But watch out for 07-08 and 08-09!!!

Lots of Illini here... I like the second stone too. Bigger, eye clean and cheaper! I doubt anyone can see that little spot with their eyes.

I''m class of 98. My wife is class of 99.

I agree - I prefer the second stone. I''m not wild on the smallish table on the first stone.

can a non-illini person vote?

Mine too!

I graduated in ''01 with an engineering degree. Now I live in Los Angeles. I miss Champaign more than I miss Chicago. I don''t miss that weather though. Although it is raining in LA today.

Thank you for all of your opinions! I really really appreciate them.

Just wanted to thank you all for all of your input. I have decided to get the .555 carat diamond. All the information you have given me has been soooo valuable, and can''t begin to tell you guys how much I have learned from all of you. I will definitely post some pictures once I get the ring on my ladies hand!

I had just one question remaining for everyone. I am getting the .555 carat diamond. I am deciding on the ring setting now. It is down to the 4 prong 18 k white gold and the 6 prong 18 k white gold. I have read some of the other topics regarding 4 prong vs 6 prong, but a lot of those are discussing larger diamonds. Having a smaller diamond, would a 4 prong work even though its 18k and not platinum? I plan on asking WF their opinions, but I would like you know everyone''s on here too.

this is the 4 prong

Both are lovely. Personally, I''d want that stone in a 4-prong setting....less metal showing, and more diamond! There are some people, though, who see stones in 4-prongs and think that it makes the stone look squarish (nothing wrong with that, IMO). I just think that a 4-prong would show off that beauty better than a 6-prong! My 2 cents! Either way, you can''t go wrong with a classic solitaire setting like that. Good choice!

I had a smaller diamond at one point (.38ct) and at first I had it in a 6 prong setting. I personally thought it overwhelmed the diamond. I then had it in a 4 prong setting and liked it much better, so I say go for the 4 prong.

I also had a .55ct in a 4 prong setting and thought it looked awesome in it.

Ah good ole Illini alumni, always looking to help someone out. Thanks a lot Kristy I appreciate it. I have to say I do prefer the look of the 4 prong as opposed to the 6. Just wasn''t sure since the 18k wouldn''t be as strong as platinum.

Pebbles, did you have your .38 or .55 stones in gold or platinum?

I know I''m new to here, though I have been reading the forum for some time to get my knowledge up. I think the 1st one would be better. I mean you are getting a higher clarity for only $69 more. As people have said before that they like #2 because of a bigger table size, but at that size will it really matter????

I also like the 4 prong ring. I like how you see more of the diamond with it.

Both are great diamonds though.

Well Moe, I understand your point. Though the .555 is eye clean, so the clarity really doesn''t matter to me because I am not gonna have a 10x magnifier on it. I am just going by how people are saying the size difference in table and depth matters.

I am just saying that you are talking about fractions of a mm here. It cannot make that big of a difference. I am no expert though, so maybe I am wrong. Just my 2 cents
