well thanks for your opinions moe, appreciate it!

I''m not an expert either, but I don''t think any of us think that the table size of #2 will make a significant difference in size appearance, but what''s clear is that the overall *proportions* of #2 are a bit better. And proportions/angles are what make a diamond well-cut. And well-cut diamonds = more sparkle and fire, which ultimately do more to mask inclusions than anything else. I haven''t seen either of these diamonds, and it''s true that the eye is the best judge of all, but but based on the numbers, I''d say that most people would go for #2 hands-down. Plus, the difference in clarity between VS2 and SI1 stones is extremely minimal, unless you''re looking at the stones through a 50x microscope or something.

That was extremely insightful Kristy. Thank you very much. That was kind of along the lines of what I was thinking. The clarity I think is a wash because as I said, I am not gonna notice it with my 2 eyes. They are both great cuts so I might as well go with the larger stone

a few things:

I know I''m jumpin on the vote wagon really late here, but I like #2 better too. Glad you went with that one Agent.

Moe - I understand where you''re coming from too, that''s what I would''ve thought a little while back. But that''s before reading up on everything here at PS and just seeing a VS2 and an SI1, you really can''t tell the difference between the two w/ your naked eye.

as a non-alum of Ill, I thought INI or ILL was new diamond lingo I''d never heard of before...ha ha ha. Boy do I feel sheepish...

and not to hijack this thread or anything, what does IS stand for? I think someone told me before already, and for the life of me, I can''t remember!!!

Hey Jay, thanks for the input!!

Oh shoot, I forgot one more thing...

again, not to hijack, but I thought since we were on the topic, maybe we both can get the 411 on it?

4 vs 6 prong...

I was leaning towards a 6-prong platinum setting for an ACA .807 G SI1. But after hearing everyone leaning towards 4, I''m starting to change my mind...anyone like 6 prongs? Would they really cover that much more of the diamond?

I plan on asking the gal at WF today when I call about it. I know a lot of people say for the bigger stones to get the 6 prong for safety, just not sure how it needs to be for something smaller like .5 carats. I particularly like the 4 prong, I like how it shows off more of the diamond. Though I understand how some people like the 6 because it makes it appear more round.

And I don''t mind you asking questions in this thread because I probably have the same question.

Thanks Agent.

I know at the end of the day, it''s all about personal preference, but these threads really help a guy like me out.

Wait, what about IS? What does it stand for?

IS???? or SI??

IS = IdealScope. It''s a little instrument that measures light return/leakage of a diamond. Some of the PS vendors on this site will provide you with an IS image of a diamond that you''re considering buying. See http://www.ideal-scope.com

I could''ve SWORN it was IS, but I can''t seem to find it anymore. Maybe it''s just a typo? People type so fast the "I" is hit before the "S" ? EIther that or I''m dyslexic...

Anyone ever heard of IS?

for diamonds less than 1ct. i think 4prongs look much better than 6. it just looks too 'prong-y' with 6.
so..my vote is definitely 4!

When we purchased my .55 ACA from Whiteflash, Lesley suggested going with a four prong head.

Ah good ole Illini alumni, always looking to help someone out. Thanks a lot Kristy I appreciate it. I have to say I do prefer the look of the 4 prong as opposed to the 6. Just wasn''t sure since the 18k wouldn''t be as strong as platinum.

Pebbles, did you have your .38 or .55 stones in gold or platinum?

Sorry to get back to you so late....both my stones were in white gold settings with white gold prongs.

awesome. thanks a lot everyone
