$2700 just for the setting - is this reasonable?

I now have a diamond (Thanks Wink! [more on that later]) and am requesting a quote for a custom setting locally (6 prong ''twisted'' design with curved prongs) and the initial quote is that of over $2700. Is this ballpark for a platinum ring these days/ I have to admit I was suprised it was this much.

I think that would depend, such as how much other detail work and melee/pave diamonds it has.

I second that. Do you have any images of the design? Are there a lot of melee/pave diamonds or a lot of hand engraving work? My gut feeling is that if it is just a twisted band and a prong setting it might be a bit high?

I just got a quote from Whiteflash for $2,575 for a platinum setting with a split shank band, a full bezel diamond halo, and extensive hand engraving 3/4 down the shank, with some custom filigree to go in the gallery as well. You might check out some of the online custom jewelers and see what they give you for a quote?

Have you gotten a quote from Wink? He has produced some beautiful custom pieces.

I''m not an expert, but based on the quote I got from WF, I''d say that $2700 is high... I''d check with Wink and or other PS vendors.

that is very expensive! as a reference, i had a custom setting made 3 months ago, my setting was ~$2000 and it is platinum with pave. i got quotes from 3 PS vendors and they were all within ~$200 of each other. i would recommend getting quotes from other vendors. does it have to be a local vendor?

Yes, for just platinum that is high. Platinum is creeping back up in price, but your quote is still higher than it should be in my opinion.
