BF and I have chosen a BGD stone and I''m pretty sure that the BGD Grace setting is going to be "the" setting.

It has a 2mm band.

I tried going to a few local stores to get idea of what a 2mm band would look like on my finger, which is size 5.5.

But it seems like the local B&Ms I went to didn''t really know the sizes of the bands on their e-rings so they just "make up" a size on the fly.

At one store I asked the size of the band of the e-ring I was trying on and the saleslady umm''ed and ahhh''ed a bit and then hesitantly said "2....2.2...."

I also tried on a Ritani eternity w-band which looked too fine/thin on my finger. But she didn''t know the band mm size. And it doesn''t seem to say ontheir website.

At Tiffany I tried on their traditional 6 prong Tiffany setting with knife edge band which didn''t really give me a good idea bc the band is knife edge. THough I did find the band generally too thin looking for my taste. I found that the matching plain wedding band on its own looked too thin and kinda silly on me.

Then I went to Birks and tried on a solitaire and the saleslady told me the band was 2.5mm. She sounded pretty sure but the tag on the ring didn''t say anything about the size. Then she commented that "anything thinner than 2.5mm is too thin looking".

So I''m trying to make sure that before I pull the trigger on the Grace (which has a 2mm band) that I won''t find it too thin.

How do I figure this out if no one around here seems to be sure about what band sizes they are showing me?

Advice?

I guess I should also ask someone to clarify what depth and width are measuring, so I make sure I''m not mixing those two up....

To me, width sounds like it means the mm size of the band (when viewed from the top i.e. ON the finger) from front to back (ie knuckle side to finger web side) and
depth is the mm size of the band from the surface that touches the finger to the top surface of the band (when viewed from above).

So back to my original question......I''m looking for more clarification on 2mm wide bands. Thanks!

Hi Puravida;

I would have just asked the people in the stores to get out a ruler! Or better yet a set of calipers..

On my own hand, I do find less than 2.5mm doesn''t look right..

But everyone''s different - some like it the thinner the better.

When BG says a 2mm band, my understanding is this def. refers to the width on the finger.

I would try again at the stores - take a mini ruler with you if you have to!

Well the good news is that BGD will make the Grace setting in either 2.5mm or 3mm if I want :)

I think your idea of a mini ruler is a good one! SInce I feel I can''t really trust salespeople around here, I''ll have to check for myself.

A lot of Leon Mege's pave rings are 1.8mm which is very thin. Look for pics on the Leon thread on Show Me the Ring. I personally think 2 - 2.5mm is a nice width on most finger sizes.

Any good jeweler will have calipers, simply ask them to measure the width of the bands!

I just tried on a whole bunch of bands over the weekend and found that depth the ring sits off my finger makes a big difference to overall look. I tried on bands that were 2-4 mm wide and very low to the finger, but they looked way too dainty. The ring I ended up liking a lot was supposedly 2 mm wide and high (I''m not sure I believe it was that narrow) and looked much better. The height to me made a huge difference.

Good point. I like a shank with a bit of height. When it''s so flat against the finger it just disappears on me.

Chica: Based on your pics, I''d say that I''d probably prefer a 2.5mm band. I''ll definately have to make another tirp out and bring my own ruler to know for sure.

I agree. This is one of the things I will look for in my reset down the road.
