A couple of months ago I decided to make a stacking set with prong set rings, just for the novelty. I've owned many bezel set stacking rings, but my goal was to do something a bit different, and to use small, but very bright gems. The first one I had done was my mahenge spinel, seen here (5.5 mm round, .85 cts):

I've completed the second one now. This one is a bit smaller at 5 mm round and .5 ct, it's a pretty little tsavorite (and both gems are Portuguese cut). I love pink and green together, I think these look like yummy pieces of candy, lol. Bright and small and sweet!

Most pics are taken in daylight, and although both gems look just as beautiful in inside lighting, they don't photograph as well. I have a few pics of the tsav in indoor lighting looking blue! And it doesn't look like that at all IRL, not this blue. It's odd.

But speaking of blue, next up for my stacking ring trio is going to be a blue gem. I'm looking for a Ceylon sapphire and I have one in mind, but it's a bit pricey and I'm not sure if it's going to happen or not. I have some cheaper options in mind but this one is so nice, so I'm trying to hold out for it - but I haven't sold much of anything lately, and I can't buy another gem until I sell some of the jewelry I already have, lol! So this project is temporarily on hold, it may be a couple of months before it's finished. I'll get there though :) Hope you like these pics.

I love this idea. I have been wearing a similar stack lately but they are different diamond shapes. A marquise, a round and a princess cut in the same setting style. Your CS version is beautiful. Congrats!! I really love the green tsavorite. :-)

CharmedOne, thank you - and your diamond version sounds gorgeous! I do plan on using a different shaped gem for the last one in my set, but if the sapphire I want sells before I can buy it, then I'm not sure...fingers crossed that I get it! Thanks for the compliments :)

Katharath, those are absolutely lovely!! Your tsav makes me drool all over my keyboard & they look wonderful together. Good color sense! Plus the yg sets the gem colors off perfectly. Don't know when I've seen prettier stackers!

These look beautiful! Each separately, and together.

If you have the chance, could you take a photo of how the stacked rings look from the side please? - I'm wondering how the prongs are connected to the shank.
I love that they're 6 pronged settings :)

I love the stones together!

For indoor shots, see if your camera or camera phone has a different setting. Mine has "daylight" "cloudy" and "incandescent". Ive found that sometimes that minimizes how awful my camera was at taking indoor pics at night. Its never going to look as good as outside/daytime pics, but it may help. I have an Android camera/phone.

Thank you SO much!! I don't usually come here and ask for advice about which gem to buy or what color combos look best; if I get an idea in my head, I just do it, lol. So it's nice to hear from others whose taste I admire (such as yourself :) ) that I've put together something that is eye pleasing to other people, not just myself.

My goal here was to choose the nicest quality gems I could afford; I wanted these rings to pop even though they are not large gems. It definitely helps to buy smaller gems as I was able to get what I feel are good quality gems (I'm very happy with them, at any rate). The smaller sizes are so much easier on the wallet!

I do think that the green and pink both look nice with the YG, I think those are the easy ones though :). The blue sapphire I'm looking at may not do as well with YG as these two gems have; but I prefer YG. So we'll see.

Thank you again for your nice compliments :)

Thank you! I will post some side view pics later today, when I'm at my computer. I actually have one gem set in a higher setting than the other (although it's the same basic style). It may sound a bit odd, but I wanted it that way on purpose, for a couple of reasons. I'll give details on it when I get the pics posted shortly.

Chrisa222 - thank you for the tip and the kind words! I will look into it and see if I can find anything in the settings, but most of my pics are simply taken with my phone :)

(On a side note, the opal you sent me should be arriving today, I'm looking forward to seeing it!)

Side pics. Lots more pics, lol. The first three were taken by Yvonne Raley (she sourced both gems and had them both set for me). The settings look a bit wonky in some of the pics but I think that's bc the rings are tilted at angles; I don't see any wonkiness in front of me, anyway.

I went with the higher setting for the mahenge bc it's the slightly larger gem. I thought the tsavorite was too small to do such a high setting for; I didn't want it to look silly. The mahenge turned out actually a bit higher than I expected, but I don't think it looks bad. I wanted the tsav set lower bc I thought it would nestle up next to the mahenge better if it were set lower, and I think it worked out pretty well.

I actually prefer the lower setting on the tsavorite in general though; if these rings weren't intended to stack together, I probably wouldn't have chosen the higher setting for a gem that I intended to wear alone.

That is SO cool and the yellow gold makes the pink and green pop! Great stacker colour choices too.

The different heights in the settings was a great idea. The profile is amazing. I hope you do get your sapphire. I agree with you on the sapphire possibly, looking better in a white gold setting. It hard to say for sure but what about a chrysoberyl? They really have such a nice sparkle, especially when they are well cut.

Chrono - thank you, your opinion is always much appreciated!

I'm glad you like the way the settings look! I think it turned out well too.

As far as the next gem choice - I do want to get a chrysoberyl eventually, but I'm very much set on using a blue gem for the third one in this set. I've thought about possibly using a spinel or tourmaline - but I really want that sapphire blue color... But, if I don't end up with the gem I've had my eye on then maybe I'll consider other colors. Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions :)

Beautiful! They're so vivid. Delicious!

Did someone say blue sapphires in yellow gold? Here I am!

katharath, I love your mahenge and tsavorite combination! So delicious. I have multiple sapphires in yellow gold, and none in white metal, so I may be a bit biased -- but I think sapphires look lovely in yellow gold, and would complete your set perfectly. Here are some pics of mine, all in 18K yellow gold:

A variety of blues, in yellow gold:

In my opintion, there is something that is just alive about blue with yellow gold. The oval in east-west bezel was set by Sally at Heart of Water Jewels. When she shipped it out, she called it "your little bit of heaven and earth."

Also, Polished has a blue sapphire in a yellow gold Van Craynest setting on this page, so beautiful: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/show-me-some-van-craeynest.79472/page-37

Haha yes, blue sapphires in yellow gold = totally Yanaazul! And totally beautiful.

Rosebloom - thank you! I think they are delicious too, they look like juicy little gems! I've been wearing them everyday lately and I feel like I love them more and more.

Yanaazul - wow! Thank you SO much for posting pics of your beautiful sapphires in YG! I always feel like I'm in the minority since I basically refuse to use WG, even if it's a gem that may look better in it. I just love RG and YG though. I feel more confident about my choice to set a blue sapphire in YG now though, since I've seen all of yours :). I really can't wait to have mine done - but I'm actually looking for the sapphire I'm going to use right now. The one that I wanted to use is no longer available :(. I just found out a bit ago that it wasn't up for sale anymore, so I've been searching all morning long, lol. I am rather picky about it, I want something that will hopefully match the tsav and mahenge in quality. I've found several that I like, but not one that just screams "buy me" (that I can afford, anyway).

You're welcome! I'm excited to see what sapphire you find, because your stack will be gorgeous! Truthfully, I don't think there's any color of gemstone that doesn't look good in yellow gold, you know?

Also, meant to tell you, I love your open rings with bezeled pairs. I'm inspired to get one, one of these days. I will definitely go to your artist, too.

I know EXACTLY what you mean - I tend to think everything looks good in YG also :). Although I realize not everyone shares that opinion, lol. For awhile it seemed like no one I knew was even wearing YG anymore, except me. I've always preferred it though.

Thank you for the compliments! I also love my open rings, I wear them every single day. They're sturdy, comfortable, and colorful! I can definitely recommend my jeweler, I think you would be happy. She sources all types of CS so you shouldn't have a problem getting just what you want, I hope you get one someday. I do know that another PSer had her make one, using ceylon sapphires in fact! In YG, just like mine. I saw the pics and it was gorgeous. I thought about having her make one for me like that too, using ceylons, but I have four other open rings now...I wanted to move onto a different style for a bit.

I will definitely post a pic of the sapphire I get for this set - I know which one it's going to be now, but I'll wait until I have it to show pics :). It's a different shape than the rounds, I wanted to mix up the set with one different shape - its a trillion, and my first trillion ever. I'm very excited!!

Those sapphire ring in yellow gold are gorgeous! I wish I had seen these before deciding to keep my ering in a white gold setting. Being a September baby I love sapphires and I adore all your pretties. Just amazing!!
