3.83 ct Blue Spinel driving off Chrono’s blues

Chrono, It''s gorgeous!!!

gorgeous!

Gosh what a joy to be seeing, first thing in the morning. What a beauty!!! Is it from a seller that had a picture of a lavender flower beside it, to illustrate the color? I''ve been admiring that from afar for a long time! My, the dispersion looks amazing! Lucky you

Lovely spinel!

Beautiful spinel!
I too would love to know from whom you got this beauty, and whether the vendor''s pics represented the colour IRL...

AmGuy, Arc, IndyLady, MaRe, MTG, PackRat, LD, Cind11, Sarahbear, Charmy, Soberguy, Yingh, Marcyc, BellaZ, Maevie, MarriedTiger, Freke, Crasru, LadyD. Heliotrope, LG and VigorRuby,
Everyone is so kind and complimentary about my new spinel which only adds more smiles to my face every time I look at it. I haven’t decided what to do with the spinel yet but it will most likely be another ring stone so I can admire the colour shift, pretty colours and the awesome sparkles. Perhaps something with pink diamond melees, but we’ll see. Yes, to all those who guessed the vendor. It is indeed a precision cut stone offered by Kingdom of Red Spinels. It sat in his inventory for a few years and I passed on it 3 years ago during my search for a cobalt spinel. I’ve kicked myself over it, and when TL purchased her gorgeous blue/purple spinel, I knew I had to find one just like that for my own collection. By sheer luck, it was still available so I called him ASAP before someone else decides to grab it. As soon as I opened the package, I knew this is the stone for me.

SS,
No, I haven’t checked it with the filter yet. I’ve been too busy admiring it and taking pictures, so I’ve been remiss. Are you asking because you think it might contain Chromium?

AJ,
You are too sweet. You know you are welcome to play in my jewellery box should we meet up one day.

That goes for any PSer that I should happen to meet IRL, which is only one though, unfortunately.

VigorRuby,
The vendor only showed the purple pictures but yes, his pictures are very accurate.

MT,
I can’t believe you recognized the spinel. Have you been eyeing this yourself?

Lady D,
Yes, I’m over the moon with finally finding my own Luc Yen spinel. I consider it a lucky find.

I really like the colour(s).

Attached is the vendor’s picture, which is quite accurate. There are inclusions in the spinel but it’s not noticeable due to the sparkle, medium tone, and when viewed under normal conditions (further than 6 inches away).

Chrono, it''s a lovely stone. Seeing it gives me a hankering for more ovals in my life.

Oddoneout,
Thank you for your kind words. It’s great that this stone has everything from colour, to size, to cut.

Gailey,
I usually stay away from ovals as it is my least liked shape but I couldn’t pass up on this one, so I know what you mean. Not only that, this spinel doesn’t have the dreaded bow tie.

Gorgeous addition!

Hey C!
Ah, the offer is mutual - if you are ever "down under" we can play swapsies

Who would''ve known from that photo what a lovely blue colour change it has, what a great find.
Please excuse the probably ignorant question, but is it rare/difficult to get a Luc Yen spinel?

Not sure how you feel about YG, but I think this would be lovely in a warm, high kt yellow setting

Gailey,
Sorry to threadjack, but did you get your PT spinel yet? It's also violet, and I wanted to see it.

Chrono, LD,
Thanks for the kind words on my spinel. My stone is Tanzanian though.

If the chelsea glows red, I believe that means it might contain cobalt.

Guilty as charged

can you say sweeeeet!!..yum yum..has some size to it also

I agree - a beautiful stone!

AJ,

I think if the vendor had shown the blue side, the spinel would have been sold long ago. Instead, he only provided the purple/lavender pictures and advertised it under the purple category, not blue. He did make a note in the text that it shifts to a cornflower (his words, not mine) blue.

Luc Yen started producing amazing hauyne like blue spinels a few years ago. However because of the mountainous and remote location, it is not easy to get them to the market and as such, many remain a collector’s item.

I don’t mind yellow gold at all. In fact, the vendor has a picture of the lavender/purple side in a rich yellow gold setting.

Duh, sorry about my brain fart. I''d completely forgotten about the check for cobalt using the filter.

Gailey,
I remember now about your new spinel purchase. I can''t wait to see it too.
