3 prong basket setting for studs?

When will you get them back? Hoping that you really love them and that they are comfortable for you. Of course we want photos!

2-3 weeks (this photo is white gold and they will be special ordering platinum). I will post photos, but I will wait till my April bday to really wear them!

I really hope the jeweler can make those prongs very delicate. I was assured that he could. However, we also talked about creating a three prong martini that had a flatter bottom, not so pointy. She said that was totally possible. Maybe I should call back and talk with the person planning to do the work just to make sure my ideas are conveyed. And a three prong martini without that pointy part going into the piercing actually sounds lovely.

I had setting like that for the stones currently in the 8 prong yellow gold settings. Here are (quick) photos of one of the empty settings.

I changed them up after I got the WF 8 prong martinis since I liked them so much, but these 3 prong with the flatter bottom worked better for me than the typical 3 prong with the pointy bottom. So they may work for you if you don't want the 8 prong.

Thanks for sending that picture. I feel like I saw something like that here on PS at some point but couldn't find it again. So helpful! I'm sure that would be more comfortable than the traditional three prong martini. I feel nearly decided on the eight prong martini but I think one of my concerns is that the eight prongs might make the stone look too big. And I wonder if the three prong would minimize the Bling just enough so that I would feel comfortable with daily wear. I was also a little bit surprised by how much the eight prongs covered up the bottom of the diamond IRL, which probably doesn't matter because people are only really seeing the top. (?)

These will look great.

Update here!

I ended up getting slightly bigger stones than I had planned on. They are .68 carats each, so 1.36tcw. They are sparkly and amazing, but that's another thread;-)

Right now my plan is to go with eight prong martini setting. I really want them to sit low and snug to my ears, but still be super comfortable. I was concerned it would be too much metal but after looking through all the posts it seems like most everybody's very happy with this setting.

Again, planning for these to be my everyday studs. University teaching, running, camping, schlepping kids all over the place, gardening, baking, Swimming – (not my intention but it happens). I'm just the kind of person who wants to put earrings in and enjoy looking pretty without having to think about it too much.

Questions:

1) Any additional thoughts I should consider with an eight prong setting?

2) Should I start a separate thread about secure and hypoallergenic backings that are not screw?

Thanks so much. You have already been so helpful.

I am not much help with the setting since I have bezel set studs but jumbo backs are the way to go.

if the prongs are tapered enough, they shouldn't add much to the appearance of size. I don't think I noticed any real difference when moving from the 3 prong to the 8. Those stones are about 1.75 tcw, But if you're concerned, maybe go to the 3 prong???

Did the three prong that you sent the picture of project from the earlobe too much? Or did it sit as flat as the eight prong? I really love the look of flat against the ear, but with sensitive lobes can't do traditional martini.

It's been years so I won't swear to this being accurate, but the main reason I changed was that I liked the look of the 8 prong better, as a setting. I don't recall not liking the way the 3 prong sat on the ear. And if it sat too high, I know I would have not liked it at all. That's about all I can tell you. Sorry I can't be more helpful.
