My wife has 4.25 size finger, I think.....
Do you think .8 c stone will fit her well, or I can go smaller?
She is not flashy type of person and certainly don't mind not to wear a ring in the past.

But, we are not students anymore, can affort a little diamond

It really depends on what she likes the best, there isn''t really an "ideal" standard for finger coverage. I have a 4.25 and a 1.1 carat stone and I think it looks fabulous. It''s big enough without looking gawdy at all. If she likes a .8 then that is perfect for her. Many here have 3+ carats on size 3 hands and love them, others have .5 carat stones on a size 7 hand. My best advice would be to go looking with her and have her try on a variety of sizes and shapes to see what she likes the best.

Go as large as you can comfortably afford. .8 will certainly not be too large.

I''m that size and a .8 round brilliant looks pretty blingy on my finger. You may want to involve her in the process a bit to get a sense for her preferences (maybe take her to try some on) or ask her what she likes, because social circle and geographics often tend to influence preferences. When I lived in San Francisco, 1 carat+ was the norm. Here on Vancouver Island, most of my friends have smaller stones but way bigger homes - diamonds just aren''t a big deal up here. I was surprised at how big a .75 RB looked on my hand, so maybe she''ll be delighted with that size as well, but it''s best to find out before you spend too much time and effort searching for a stone.

I wouldn''t say .80 is flashy, but it''s a nice size. A 1 ct. would be really nice, if you could swing it. Noticable, but far from flashy.

I will try to go as big as I can, but is .8 too small?

Our social circle is a wired one. Being in finance, her fellow workers are all rich male. Their wivies have big rocks.
But our hand-out friend are just normal people, many of them don't wear diamond at all. So I don't want something shaby or flashy at same time.
I certainly can't wing 1+C either.

So, if you can''t swing a full carat and she''s not hung up on the size, then I say, get the very best cut stone you can find and go with a vendor like Good Old Gold that finds great stones and has a fantastic upgrade policy should you ever want to upgrade. 9 out of 10 stones I see around me aren''t too well cut, but when I do see one that is, it''s a revelation, no matter what the size.

Ditto!

It's really about what she wants and what is affordable. I don't buy into the... if she has a size 5 finger she should only wear a 1.5ct stone max.... She has to feel comfortable, and you have to be able to buy it... There are very few women on here who would not want a 5ct stone if it was attainable. But there are a few who would not want it..... Crazy girls!! LOL

I have a .83 size stone and a size 4.5 hand and am about those same measurements as your wife. It is a nice size, not too big. If you want it to look a bit larger, why not choose a halo setting? They are lovely and a stone of that size would look awesome. This one is lovely:

This setting is also lovely, and is one of my favs:

I''d definitely have her try some rings on. Sometimes some settings can look too large. .8 diamond is definitely not too big.

I don''t think .8 is too small! The stone I have coming in my ring is .82 and my finger is size 4.75. I''m really excited!

Hello :)

I thought I''d reply, as I have a similar sized finger (4.25) and I am also pretty tiny, in fact, even smaller than your future fiance... just 5ft 0" ! :)

I think 0.8ct is a lovely size - and if that is what''s in your budget then I think your lady will be absolutely delighted!!!

If you find you can go bigger within your budget, then do - diamonds do have an annoying tendency to seem to get smaller, as we get accustomed to wearing them! My 1ct stone seemed gigantic initially, but now I am totally used to the size.

I would not worry that 0.8 is too small - it will look wonderful on this size finger.

Like the other ladies have suggested - buy the very best cut possible (AGS0, or GIA Ex/Ex) to get the most spectacular diamond for your money.

If you would like some help in choosing stones, just let us have an idea of your budget for the stone (and if you have any indication of your preference for colour/clarity) and we will be very happy to find you some amazing diamonds to choose from. :)

I don''t think a .8 is too small at all.

My old ering was a 1 carat princess cut that faced up like a .8ish round. I wear a size 4. It looked quite substantial.

I''m a size 4. My rings range from 0.4 ct to 1.0 ct. I think they all look perfectly fine on my hand. The average size here is about 0.5 - 1.0 carat, so I''m comfortable with any of my rings.

I think it is a great size for her hand!

I have a 3.75 finger. 6mm stone is perfect for me, so that''s about 3/4 carat. If your wife isn''t flashy, 0.6 even would be fine. I''m not a big stone girl either, and I thought 0.8 carat was too big for my taste.

Hi, I''m a 4.25 and my rb''s 1 ct.

I think .8 will be fine. At first I thought the stone was a tad big but now.....I could probably go bigger. I think I got used to it

I''ve seen that before... Its one of the most honestly insifghtful threads i''ve ever read on here...

I''m about the same size as your gf and my first e-ring was about .50 carat. It looked perfect on my finger and I loved it!! Plus, just keep in mind that you can always surprise her with upgrades in the future. I think shape and style is more important than size of the rock. Also keep in mind that some shapes tend to look "bigger" than other shapes. If I''m not mistaken (and somebody correct me if I''m wrong), round stones look the biggest compared to Asscher cuts.

I''m glad someone else enjoyed it as much as I did. It really was honest. Don''t get me wrong, I want the best cut stone too, but that guy really nailed it... I thought it was great! Thanks for replying, I was starting to think I was nuts and or invisible...
