To show off and protect my new 73 point round ACA...does it really matter if the setting is 4 or 6 prongs? Does 6 protect it better? I want it in a platinum solitaire...

Thanks for your help...

My vote is for a 4 prong setting to showcase more of the diamond. Call the people at WF to discuss what is the safest. I''m sure they will assure you that 4 prong is perfectly safe.

If you like the look of the four prong but want the security of the six prong you could always ask for beefier (sp?) prongs so it''s a little more secure. Personally I don''t like the look of the six prong on smaller stones, on a diamond that size it probable wouldn''t look as good as a four prong. Just my opionion, I''m sure others love the look!

My vote is almost always for a 4-prong! More diamond, less metal! It will still be plenty protected.

4 prong....the diamond looks more square.

6 prong.... the diamond looks more round.

Go 4 prong (unless you are trying to get the "Tiffany" look- then go 6) and get it insured.

I think I''m going with a 6-prong tiffany myself four my ACA.

I agree w/ Dancing about the 6-prong looking more round.

One question I have though is that I want to get it set out here in CA. I have a few places I''ve been looking at so far, but I just wanted to know if there is anything to look out for when having my diamond set by an independent platinum smith?
