Cut by Dan Stair, a whopping 8.97mm. I swear, every stone I buy seems to be bigger than the last!

My pic. I think the vendor pic is very accurate - the stone can actually be a little more red IRL.

At the end of the day, with hardly any sunlight left.

Well, that is a reddish orange spessartite, and a lovely one indeed. Congratulations on your stone and I love the cutting on it!!

These bigger sizes are verrry easy to get used to!

Whoa! Big indeed! Lovely color, I really like it!

I took it to my jeweler this weekend just to see if there were any settings that would fit, and this was the only one:

It''s a fancy setting, but I don''t really like it for this stone.

I have a three carat scissors cut one that same exact color, and now you're giving me ideas for it in yellow gold!!

I happen to think it looks awesome in that two tone setting - very regal!

Okay, last one of the setting (which was wayyyyy too expensive to even consider!).

Last pic for now. It''s a funny stone - sometimes it''s really red, and other times it''s really orange. Given the lackluster weather and my getting over an illness, I have yet to get pics in decent sun. Hopefully, this week will be better on both accounts!

Wow! It''s big, a very nice color, and well cut. What more could you ask for??

woohoo is that fiery!

Wow, thanks everyone - I''m really flattered by your nice comments. Actually, I guess Dan should be flattered, since I had nothing to do with the beauty of this gem, lol!

And TL, I''d been wondering what color metal to use for this stone. I usually think of YG for red stones, but for some reason, it just didn''t sing to me. The gold in that particular setting was very yellow (I don''t know if they used different alloys or what), so that may have had something to do with it. And I don''t think my usual "throw it in a halo" MO is going to work with this one.

There are more "buttery" yellow gold alloys, so that is something to consider.

This is a horrid little setting, but you can at least get an idea of it in WG. I'm inclined to put it in a WG setting with a thin diamond shank. Double prongs would be my top choice.

ETA: holy smokes, that's a huge pic - sorry everyone!

Definitely double prongs!! It would be nice if they were clawed prongs too.

Aw, ,too bad that setting is way expensive, because it looks amazing!

Nifty stone, cellentani! Love the color, and the cut, and the size looks perfectly fine to me.

I know what you mean about size. I keep passing on the smaller stones, too.

Gorgeous! I actually love it in that setting, definitely a statement piece.

Oh my . . . it IS v.large on your hand!

Honestly, I think the jeweler''s setting was a little too busy for it . . . that may be just me though. And yeah, a buttery yellow might better suit it instead of that intense yellow. That material has so much life I think it can do with a comparatively plain setting b/c at times it seems as if it''s possessed!

very very nice
can i ask what kind of camera or how do you take the close up photos ? (especially those that have a tweezers holding the garnet?)

Wow amazing stone. I love the cut and colour.

You could also set it on it''s side, like a baseball diamond. Just a thought.

Nice colour and cut and a sizable stone too. Cellentani, your pics of the stone held in the tweezers are great. I wish I could take gem pics as good as yours.
