Hello All- I am looking to purchase a diamond necklaces with a little more more bling than my DBTY. I have been looking around and discovered the riviera necklaces. I have seen them anywhere between 5-6 ct tw in my price range (5-7K) and am wondering if I can get away with wearing this type of necklace everyday. I have a pair of 2.2 ct tw diamond studs that I wear all the time, only removing them to clean them and my 1.9 ct OEC engagement ring. I work in an office that is business casual/casual Fridays and almost never wear a suit. I spend most of my time in nice jeans, blouses, heels/boots.

So my question is...... Is a 5-6 ct tw necklace too much bling for daily wear/jeans? Should I look for something smaller between 3-4 ct tw range. Or do you have a suggest for another type of diamond necklace. I am not a diamond pendant type of girl so that isn't an option.

And does anyone have photos of someone wearing a riviera necklace of any of these carat weights? I seem to find a lot of stock photos of just the necklace or photos of a model wearing a 15 ct one but nothing smaller.

Thanks!

I think that is ABSOLUTELY an item you can wear everyday! A riviera necklace for everyday wear is one of the top items on my bling wishlist.

I was hoping it would be an everyday necklace :twirl: but I have a tendency to like a lot of bling. What do you think about the ctw? I prefer my necklaces shorter since I have a long neck and usually go with 16 inch.

3-4 ctw or 6-7 ctw?

I'll have to take the opposite view and say that I absolutely do not think a Riviera necklace is for everyday unless you are VERY dressed up for work. I think of those for formal wear or very dressy daily wear. A solitaire pendant would be better for everyday casual or dressy, in my opinion.

I have a 5 ctw riveria necklace and can wear it both dressed up or with a pair of jeans. I say, go for it! :Up_to_something: Here is a photo for size reference. Ignore the turkey neck!

I think depending upon where you live they can work for everyday wear and for evening wear like a larger diamond tennis bracelet. The key is keeping what you are wearing simple....

I think we need to see pics to say if it is an everyday necklace though I do agree with arkieb that depending on how you accessorize and what you wear can make all the difference. Plus I am a big believer on wearing what you want and what you love without caring too much about what is the "right" thing to wear.

Farleysmom- lovely necklace and it looks great on you!

I usually only wear my diamond studs which are a pretty nice size (2.1 ctw), a simple stainless steal watch and my engagement ring ( I don't wear my wedding band unless I leave my engagement ringt at home). I keep going back and forth on the whole idea because I really want something I can wear everyday. Honestly, I am a jeans and silk blouse kind of girl.

I'm in my early 40s live in DC and work for the government. I see women in my office building wearing tennis bracelets and I was hoping that a riviera necklace would be acceptable for daily wear.

diamondseeker2006- I have a 1 ct diamond pendant but I just don't wear it that often. I prefer my DBTY when I want something simple.

Farleysmom - I love your necklace. It looks really great on you and you don't have a turkey neck. I would without question wear your necklace with the blouse you are wearing and jeans.

Thanks for the feedback.

I can just give me opinion based off of what I have been shopping around for. I work from home and have little kids so I'm pretty much live in sweats  But I love "loud" jewelry. Anyhow I have wanted a riveria necklace for a long time so I have semi seriously shopped around. I went to a local place to try on different sizes. I felt the 3-4 ct looked funny on me personally. From a distance you can't tell if they are diamonds or just a beaded necklace which I personally didn't care for. I also tried on a 6ct one which I thought was perfect for everyday. It had graduated diamonds though which I thought made the necklace a bit more formal. If you want a riveria for everyday I personally like all the diamonds to be the same size.

Finally I tried on the 10ctw which was by far my favorite. I thought it was also fine for everyday. It was blingy without screaming at you. However if you are worried that 5-7ctw might be too much then prehaps 10ctw is

I would definitely recommend going someplace local to you and trying on different sizes and then working your way from there to what you are comfortable with. I persoanlly feel you should wear what you want so if you love the look that is the size I would go for.

FM- Beautiful necklace!!!!!

I guess this boils down to personal preference...I'm in the minority on this one and wouldn't wear it with jeans or casual clothes. To me a piece like this is very formal and I would wear it for special dressy occasions. But I guess personal style enters into the decision.

I was thinking of suggesting a "diamonds by the yard" necklace or a diamond station necklace. To me, they seem to be the perfect balance of style and sparkle for everyday wear.

to me i think they wear similar to a string of pearls. Do they look a tad silly with a t shirt? I think so, do they look great with a boat neck or a classic button up or a sun dress? Sure do! But the bigger you go the more formal they look.

I think it depends on what you're wearing them with. With a severe business suit? I don't think it'll look overdressed: I DO think it'll look posh, and luxurious. I consider those good things.

Have you ever read a book called The Necklace? It's about a dozen or so women who go in on a riviera together, swapping it month-to-month. It's a little pretentious at times (the woman who initially found it was a social-justice type, which I'm all in favor of, but which meshed in a weirdly self-hating manner with the subject matter of the book), but there are plenty of examples of normal ladies trying to work a fancy piece into their day-to-day lives. Most of them found it to be completely natural!

P.S. - I also think the setting style will set the tone. Do you want a vintage necklace, or a sleek bezel-set, or a line of slim baguettes, or ...?

Circe I read The Necklace years ago :)) I love the idea of why they started the club and shared the riviera. However I think the necklace was over 30ctw or similar. So that might be a little much for everyday wear, but then again as you mentioned they wore it for a month straight and found it to be comfortable and natural to wear while skydiving, surfing or just going out for coffee.

Hehe, I got curious enough to check - apparently, we need to split the difference. Their's was 15 carats ... definitely big enough to make an impression! But apparently still doable, so, OP, I think you're on solid ground.

Way over budget but amazing!

I'd save for that baby!!

Yeah... I still think it's daily wear material! Plenty of people wear tennis bracelets every day, and a riviera bracelet is the same concept just around your neck. Since tennis bracelets are fine with jeans and a tshirt, I think riviera necklaces would be too. Eternity bands are also the same concept just around your finger. idk, I don't know why fancy jewelry on one part of your body is acceptable but not on another part. I could be trying to use logic in a place where logic doesn't apply though.

I was going to say it might be too much for work til you said this. I have the same kind of job, and I'd say you can probably wear anything you want. In my office people really do dress up or down, depending on their preference, and I think you could get away with a necklace like that.

I live in the DC area and have many friends and family who work for the government. IMHO it is a bit too much to wear 2 ctw studs, the necklace and your ering to work in a government office (that's what - 12 carats of diamonds?). My grandmother, who was a very classy lady and worked for an Embassy here, usually went with the 'less is more'. She used to say wear a necklace and a ring, or earrings and a bracelet, but never all four at once. I realize that is probably not the preferred modus operandi on PS - but what the heck. Just sayin....

I'm also in DC and this is just an understated city. I think it depends a bit on how much you want to stand out in your job. I tend to wear designer bags/shoes and that and my jewelry is probably a bit over the top for DC (and government), but I decided that I don't really care and am willing to take the chance that someone may judge me for it (hold it against me, etc). Given your style I think it would look good with what you wear. If anything I would prefer to see more over dressed people then frumpy people (which we are full of in our nation's capital). Another option is a pair of pearl studs for necklace days, then alternate some days with the diamond studs.

I will say I was recently in a meeting with a government employee with a Hermes Birkin and some amazing diamond jewelry. I had a hard time not staring at her hand --- from across the room. But that was the flashiest combination I've ever seen here (and she was in town from our NYC office).

I think that a 5-6ctw necklace would be delicate and lovely for everyday dress-casual office attire or business suit. I'd even wear it with a nice v-neck t-shirt and a skirt. I would go for no or very little graduation of diamond sizes. To me, a very graduated piece seems for formal.
Or, you could get three 3ct tennis bracelets with invisible clasps and wear them all together as a necklace some days, or as a stack (or just one) of bracelets other days. I'm planning on something similar myself one day. I adore convertable jewellery!

I think a riviera necklace would be wonderful for daily wear. I'd love to get one someday!
