We lost power for 5 hours do to the ice storm, near by buildings are still out
We saw a flash and heard a boom so we think the transformer for the building across the street blew.
How are things in your area?
Everyone ok?

Nothing more than rain where I am. What state are you in Karl? Do you have a supplemental heat source (I hope!)

EEK Karl!
Hope you and you loved ones manage to stay safe and warm.

LaLa Land expects lots of cold (well, cold for us delicate snowflakes ) rain and wind.

Stay safe!

Ugh sorry @Karl_K hoping everyone stays warm and safe

I hope you’re safe and warm now Karl. We had a whole lot of nothing…TG…It was supposed to be very rainy..with storms and powerful winds. I’m happy we missed it.

Oh no! Sorry to hear this @Karl_K !

72 degrees where I'm at

I think we are in the same state as you, Karl, and outages are numerous with some towns completely without power. We, (knock wood), still have power and our son's
home is without as of 5:00 AM today. They have a gas fireplace, on city water and it's daylight so they'll hang in there until repairs are made. Many schools are still closed but in 4 days the temps should have all the snow and ice a thing of the past. Stay safe.

Lots of snow and wind in WI, north of you, Karl. Work: The doctors emptied their schedules, the physical therapists all showed up.
I think we're used to it up here. Everybody (but me) has a 4 wheel drive truck.

Oh no. Is the power back yet?

We are fine, didn't lose anything in the fridge even.
I did find a huge hole on my prep plans.
I always used oil lamps for light when the power went out.
That's a no go with my oxygen.
The champ of the outage was a battery powered candle, lasted the whole time and provide enough light to walk around without using flashlights.
Going to order some battery lanterns and batteries.

The building across the street they are saying it might be down until Saturday evening.
The transformer blew.

Edit: I'm in N IL

I’m sorry Karl. Please stay safe and warm. Hopefully they will have this fixed before Saturday.

My BIL and SIL have huge branches all over their yard that fell from the ice. They are too large and heavy for them to move but they still have power. She said they it was hard hearing them fall thru out the night.

I bought a couple of multi-packs of LED lanterns and flashlights off of Amazon. All but the two more powerful lanterns came with batteries. 8 pack of cheap are great to set out and just have a bit of light to help you see as you walk through the house. Batteries that came with even lasted about three days. A four pack of more powerful do pretty well lighting a couple of areas a bit more so it is comfortable. The two most powerful can be added to a couple of the medium level to light the living room enough for even my sad eyes to read comfortably. Oh! Plus a 12 or 15 pack of cheap brightly colored flashlights (also came with batteries) set through the house so you are never too far from a flashlight to get you to the lanterns. Cost about $120 for everything including batteries for the couple that didn't come with and works great!

Glad you and your wifey are okay, Karl! Sorry this has happened.

Maybe get some handwarmers, the little packets the deer hunters use. You just shake them and you can tuck a couple in the waistband of your pants. Warming your back seems to warm everything. Just don't sleep with a fresh one, they start out quite hot.

Stormy, still waiting to find out if we have power at the house. After you and I traded messages last night ours apparently went out a few hours later and was still out when I woke up this morning. Fortunately there was hot water for a shower (in the dark) and I brought my makeup to work and made myself beautiful (<-- ) in the ladies room. I did run over to pick up some boxes and styrofoam peanuts at the lunch (in the industrial park behind the Rockford post office) and was surprised at the number of trees down, apparently from the weight of the ice.

been looking at the ice storm on my Bruce Springsteen forum

Praying you have power @Dee*Jay.
The power in the building across the street from us just came back on.
The didn't replace the transformer so it must have been a huge fuse that blew.
