So, it's that time of year again. The jewelers are bustling trying to fill holiday orders and I'm plotting and planning what I want to do in the wake of the holidays.

So, I'm thinking a graduated five stone. Round diamonds.

And I was wondering if a resident wiz might assist me in figuring what sizes/proportions catch my fancy. With illustrations?

I'm thinking:

.25 .30 .35. .30 .25

I want about 1.5 ctw (1.4-1.6)

But I wanted your thoughts and inputs (and diagrams) on what I've got percolating.

Thoughts? Comments?

Hi Ebree... I knew someone had done this recently! My setting is going to be completely different than the (gorgeous) nightingale, and my rounds are going to be europeans or transitions. Bur for figuring out the diamond proportions, Gailey's stunning ring is right on.

I think the .5 graduation is just right. I would like a little more oomph.

I would love to see what a 10 point gradation would look like though.

.2 .3 .4 .3 .2

If anyone has pictures (or can CAD or photoshop) of this look I'd love to see it.

Gypsy, what setting are you thinking of?

WOW, you guys rock. Thanks everyone.

I'm in LOVE with Catmom's band. Totally head over heels. I was thinking of a Tiffany Jazz Graduated ring like setting. But now I'm just floored by Catmoms, so I've got some thinking to do.

I'm also wondering if I should go with superideals or old europeans. Seeing Catmom's I'm thinking: H&A.

Feel free to chime in your thoughts though.

This is the look I was thinking of... but with a more pronounced gradation of stone sizes and no milgrain.

Sorry I mean Tiffany Jazz:

I like the more drastic graduation - really lovely! Enjoy, Gypsy!

Whenever I look at Catmom''s ring, a little voice in my head goes "Hubba hubba!" I think more graduated H&A''s in a bezeled setting would look luscious.

I will run a CAD later tonight, similar to what I did for Bgray''s thread.

playing with the CAD is fun... :p Using Rhino3D, interested in taking it up too? :P

I am still learning though.

This is the 0.25, 0.3, 0.35 set.

This is the 0.2, 0.3, 0.4c set.

This is the 2 set side by side, almost identical. The 0.4c set in front of the 0.35c set. Like the 0.4c slightly better.

SC you rock!

I like the .20/.30/.40 combo based on those CADs. And love the subtle bezel design!

what about .5, .35, and .2?

Jeff at John Franklin Jewelers is working on a .25 .40 .55 .39 .25 now. I hope to have a picture of it next week.

I love the look of that bezel band! It is interesting that the graduations look so subtle on the hand. Saying that, I'd endorse the .20, .30, .40 option. It will be TDF!!!

Seeing the CADs (nice work, s-c!), I think you should def. go .2, .3, .4, .3, .2.

Hey Gypsy, welcome to the 5 stone club.

Might I suggest that you go into a B&M store and try on some different 5 stone rings. I had not thought about graduating the size until I did this. The reason I chose the very slight graduation is because I thought it gave a stronger visual of the diamonds wrapping around my finger as opposed to sitting in a row across the top, while at the same time not looking dramatically graduated.

I don''t know if and when you looked at my thread, but I posted a new shot on it tonight.

Looking forward to hearing more about your project.

Okay Stone Cold, THANK YOU SO MUCH. I just saw this!!! WOW.

Decisions Decisions.

I like the one with the 40 pointer better too. But I''m wondering if I want to do .15 .25 .40 .25 .15 What do you think? Other option is .20 .30 .50 .30. .20

May I prevail on your CAD skills for a couple more renderings? I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi Gailey, I ADORE your ring. And I''ve tried a few on already. And there is a memoire (I think) that is close to the one Catmom has and I really loved it. I went just yesterday and tried on a couple more bands... and I really love the .40 size in the middle. And I want the ring to be very low, so while I adore the nightingale style, the profile I''m going to be going for is less exciting.

Now I''ve got to figure out if I want to do Ideal cut H&A stones or Old Europeans. Any thoughts on the subject?

Still trying to figure out bezel versus single prong as well. So feel free to chime in.

what about .5, .35, and .2?
Oh, I like that too Cehra. That might be a winner. Wonder what it would look like.

Ok, will do them tomorrow morning, nearing my bedtime now... :P

EDT:
By the way, what is your ring size? I CAD the above using an internal diameter of 15mm and a thickness of 1.5mm.

I think that the greater the degree of graduation between the stones, the more "antiqued" it will look and that will lend itself to an older style of cut for the diamonds, along with bezelling and milgraining etc.

I think you need to decide n whether or not you want a ring that looks like an antique or one that looks more modern first of all.
