Is it this area you're taking about?
If so, you could ask him to open that up a bit more. I traced the contour lines and the outer white one (bigger of the two) is where light will reflect off of and give the effect of being more open looking like in the inspiration ring.

It's hard to see in these "plastic" models without it being rendered in a metal surface. You could ask DK to do a render in metal and see if it still looks like it needs a change.

Or is it this that you're talking about with the donut in the car being smaller diameter than the inspo?

Yes! I didn’t realize I could ask him to open up the prongs a bit - wonderful. I was wondering if the donut is spread out wider and that’s what is creating the extra space. Also on the side view I’ve drawn arrows pointing to more open space from what looks like the prongs not dipping down all the way to the donut but instead stopping at the top of the shank ?

Because I can’t leave well enough alone - I found a video of the inspiration ring and took screenshots showing other views! There are two things I noticed and wonder if I should request as changes for mine.

My favorite part of the inspiration ring is all of that open spacing around and under the prongs - maybe these two things I see now contribute to that: 1. the donut appears a bit wider than on my cad, and 2. the dip of the prongs at the sides appears to stop where they meet the shank, not go all the way down to the donut… what do you all think?

(The diamond in pics is 8.8mm and mine is 8.5, if that makes a difference with the donut width or appearance)

@emmy12 @lovedogs @ItsMainelyYou @MamaBee @MissGotRocks and anyone else please feel free to chime in -thx!!

It looks like mostly light reflection off metal in the picture. It's giving the appearance of wider spacing/slimmer donut. Elements tends to also look a little thicker on the CADs. You can certainly ask to have them 'opened' more, but it will actually look sliiiiightly more delicate than the inspo.-which would be beautiful as well. It's really just preference!

Ok, I see. Thank you so much!

Hey all, I just received the pictures and a very quick video of the finished ring!

Can anyone tell if I should request any changes?

I had asked for delicate claw prongs - do they look a little big or all good ? and what do you think of the stone / setting height ? is it too low looking or just right?

I’m more nervous than excited. I guess about this setting I chose so swiftly. I greatly appreciate your input!

Thanks!!

For me, who loves antique styling, your ring is perfect. You want those prongs(they always look larger in zoomed pictures) and you want the band to support it. I love a lower set head as it's just more practical for daily wear. I would purposefully choose your ring.

Real talk:
I madly love my ring; that it is beautifully constructed there is no doubt, but as someone who has ridiculously beautifully tiny delicate claw prongs...unless you plan on taking your ring off for everything, and babying it besides- the prongs honestly aren't worth it. You can barely see them when the ring isn't 6 inches from your eyeball. I wished I had known and better understood what my daily requirements actually were because if I were to do it over I'd request that they were more beefed up and add some length to protect the table better. I constantly worry about damage to this ring because it is precious to me. I can't just wear it and forget it. I would destroy it in some mishap if I did. That's the reason why I primarily wear the bands on the daily.

Thank you so much for your input! I have had issues with prongs as well and I was actually trying to go bezel this time because of that.. but I just love prongs! Thank you again.

I think it’s perfect! I love the height..It came out so gorgeous! I also asked about my prongs. I thought they looked big in the photos. He told me they always look larger in the photos. If he took any more off it would compromise the diamond. When the ring came the prongs looked perfect. I bet you will think so too!

Ok wonderful and very helpful, thank you so much!

Very pretty ring! To me, the 12:00 prong in the face on image looks crooked. It looks like it's leaning to the right slightly. But I'm being super critical and it's likely not noticeable in real life. It's something I would ask about if it were my ring though.

Thank you - I did spot that initially but then forgot while wondering about the other things! I just asked about it but might be too late - but thank you for pointing it out!

Apart from the prong at 12 o’clock, I’d also look at the 10 o’clock and 2 o’clock prongs (pic 3). They look uneven to me, unless the photo has been taken at a slight angle.

Also, in the first pic, again unless the photo has been taken at a slight angle and not straight on, I see part of a fourth prong (on the right). I’d expect to only see three prongs at that angle…..if that makes sense.

What I’m getting at, is the head/basket set in the correct position or is it slightly twisted/off centre?

Such a beautiful ring btw.

Thank you - it's tough to tell with the ring resting on that prop, and the first one where it's standing up is definitely not straight-on, it's turned to the left a bit. I think all of the photos are actually from the video. Hopefully the whole head is actually straight on! I guess I'll know in a few days!

Yes, it would be hard to tell with photos taken from a video. It would be difficult to get a perfectly straight, head on shot.

I couldn’t imagine the head wouldn’t be straight, their work is exceptional. I hope I didn’t worry you.

Also, I think the prongs are the perfect size. When I see my six prong ring in photos the prongs look huge…..they tend to somewhat disappear irl. I’m sure you’re going to love it.

I notice that DK heads trends to have a "swoopiness" and curvature to then rather than being straight and geometric.

You inspiration piece has a straighter profile than what this one has. That's the big difference that I see. If you prefer the straight looking profile of the original inspiration ring, then I would ask for that to be changed.

Edited to add that I think this straightening if the outer profile could probably be achieved by hand filing the outer surface to reshape and sharpen up those lines. The CAD looked like it was straight.

Yes, I noticed this too! I thought they sure do tend to do this swoopy style. I couldn’t see how/if it could be changed, so I just decided right off to let that go. Maybe I’ll love that swoopiness more in person. But that’s very good to know filing down the outside could help! In case I have to send it back for the crooked prong or anything else. It’s on the way to me already. I should have been more patient and waited until Monday to approve it.

I think it looks perfect. I love the swoopy prongs (looks like a cupcake :) ) and struggled to see the 12:00 issue. It’s a beautifully executed solitaire that is just gorgeous imo. Hope you love it when it arrives.

I also love the swoopiness of the prongs! Can’t wait to see the ring!

Thank you @Slickk ! I can’t wait to see it on my hand. Tuesday!

Thanks everyone so much for all of your help with my new setting! It’s beautiful, and better in person. My concerns are pretty much gone - the prongs are not too beefy, and I’m adjusting to the low stone height. I have a feeling I’ll come to love this ring.

For anyone wondering, yes, I knew band pairing would be a challenge, even though I am team gap, this setting makes a big ol gap plus the need for a very low profile band… and so I had decided up front I just wouldn’t worry about wearing a band, and that would be a relief from the last 2 years of trying to find the perfect band to go with my previous solitaire. Yet the very first thing I did after the new ring arrived was try all my bands with it and then I ordered another one !

Here are some pics of the finished ring as promised. Details on the stunner of a stone will be over on the mmd forum)

    I told you! I am in love with it, too. You have the option of being team gap or no gap and there is no limit to the stack options.

I think it will look good with almost any band! So glad you are loving your new ring!

Thanks so much, band sister! The Tiffany channel band is my favorite but I think I want a slimmer one

Not sure what the width is on yours. Mine is a full eternity and is 3 mm wide. I think the full eternities may be narrower than the five or seven stone rings.
