I have a 2.5 x 20 MM Amethyst Stone 60 CT
Given to my Uncle by the real Russian Prince Matchabelli the Perfume Prince. I am looking for a value and possibly a buyer.
Unless you have documentation/paperwork that confirms without a shadow of a doubt that this came from a famous person (provenance), then it is only worth what an antique piece of similar quality stones, quality and material will be worth. It might be worth a little more if it comes with a non-forged designer jewelry stamp. An appraiser of antique jewelry should evaluate it and appraise it.
I could say I have a golf ball that was once owned by President Kennedy, but it's only worth what a golf ball is worth if I don't have proof of the provenance.
I can't tell from that pic.
Is it in a ring, pendant, bracelet, brooch, or some other kind of jewelry piece?
Can you post other pics?
And yes, without documentation of continuous provenance the value will be much lower.
(A copy could have been made of the original.)
I'd contact one of the big auction houses like Christie's or Sothbey's to find out what kind of documentation would satisfy THEIR requirements to advertise it as being associated with Russian Prince Matchabelli.
I believe it is a pendant as there are two hanging objects at the bottom. The surround has diamonds on 4 sides and there is some inscription on it I cannot read. It has been in the family for almost 100 years. I would like to get some help in identifying it
