Hello Everyone,

Please let me know your thoughts on the pictured stone.

Give me your thoughts on what you would think the cost would be given the pictures shown .

Thanks

Also,

The original picture from their site is posted below.

I questioned whether there was any violet they replied with " It does not have any evident violetish overtone or undertones. The color is deeply saturated shade of pure blue. There is no standardization of sapphire colors so it wouldn't be surprising if your perception of cornflower blue varies from our perception."

They also emailed previously that "This sapphire is one of the finest in our inventory. The proportions are such that the stone displays absolutely no windowing or extinction. It shows a perfectly uniform sparkle & luster. The stone does not have any color zoning nor does it have any color-shift / color-change effect."

Please give me your thoughts.

Thanks

Ulysses

Have you asked about treatments yet? Unheated, traditional heat or BE heating will make a huge impact on price. It is critical to have a report from a good lab stating this and confirming that it is a natural stone.

Perhaps you might want to do a search of this seller here, as there have been mixed reviews on them. One of the odd things they do is to photoshop the stone onto the hand, instead of actually taking a photo of the stone on the hand. I don't know how accurate their photos are, and whether the stone will look like this in hand. If it does, I would describe it as a pretty blue with strong saturation, but not vivid. It seems to have some some extinction going on, as you can see a dark band going across the center width of the stone in the photos. Also, the vendors other pictures show it to have an offcenter culet and to be pretty deep, which means for its size, it faces up smaller than others might.

I wish I knew that it would really look like that in hand, but I'm afraid I have my doubts...as to price, well it really depends on what the stone looks like in hand...I think its pricey at $2,250/ct. and I would definitely offer less (though to be honest, I probably would not buy from this vendor).

Lady is right - the vendor claims it has not been treated, but I would make any sell contingent upon a lab report.

Can't say it better than Minou did. Since the colors look different in each photo -- the last one definitely purple-ish, though they say it isn't, you'd need to see it IRL. Not the most thrilling saturation, and that bow tie would bother me a lot. Lab report on treatment(s) essential.

I would want either a GIA or AGL memo to prove that it is truly untreated. The rest is up to your tolerance level. Is the level of extinction not too much for you? Colour looks blue in one picture but violetish in the other. No way to tell until you have the stone in hand. A bit deep so faces up smaller than it should for the carat weight. A bit off symmetry but not terribly so. Saturation is medium to strong. Then again, the price is not too high either. It's a matter of what trade-offs you are willing to accept.

It looks pretty on the hand but I'm not sure about the rest of their photos. It's odd how light it looks in that last pic.

I too am very adverse to bow ties these days, though from these it doesn't look as obvious as others I've seen.

$2250 is very cheap for 7 ct blue sapphire, even if it's heated. As the size of stones goes up the price per cut does too for most stones, and sapphire is one of them. $3000 to $5000 per ct would be a good price for a heated stone in this size range.

Yes, that is obviously a good price for a good stone, Gene, I just have serious doubts as to whether this would qualify. He lists it as SI as well. I am leery of stones, particularly sapphires, from ebay, and especially from vendors with practices that have been questioned in the past.

I suspect more issues than what is pictured.

They send things off to GRS and AIGS labs routinely. I would ask them to do that for this stone. It is troubling how different the color on the hand is from the color in the original photo.

Without seeing a stone in person, I wouldnt begin to comment on it's color or quality. I just wanted to comment on prices in general, and a stone that size in good quality is not going to be cheap.

Thank you for your comments, Gene. As someone in the Trade, it is always good to hear from you as to current prices. Part of me is shocked, and part of me is not surprised at all, regarding current prices. Here's to hoping that they calm down soon, as this continued spiraling spike - or spiking spiral - is just too ridiculous for those of us who love sapphires and hope some day to be able to enter the market again.

Im not sure that it's just current pricing. Big sapphires are expensive. I pulled out a famous price guide from early 2011, and for blue sapphire, heated, 6 to 7.99 ct. the WHOLESALE price is $2200 to $7575 per ct. For quality from Fine to Extra Fine (6-10 on a scale of 1-10)

That's funny - I have no interest in keeping my old issues of The Guide around - they just gather dust!

I think what I was trying to say is that I'm not sure that this stone is, pursuant to standards of The Guide, "Fine to Very Fine," if you know what I mean. If it really is, then I concede that this would be a good price! But there are red flags that make me jittery, as I've indicated. But then again, I'll admit I've become risk adverse, especially when it comes to ebay.
