Suzi, beautiful stone. So glad you are not a clarity snob anymore. SIs are a great value.

Now how about a picture with your sax? The gold should match wonderfully.

Thank you! It feels good not to be a snob...

I''ll work on that picture. Unfortunately, I''m the only person in my household with photographic skills to speak of. Whever anyone else gives it a whirl, we get lots of pictures of feet, ceilings, fingertips...you get the idea...

. Perhaps if I get some time, I''ll set up a tripod and get a timed pic.

Hi Suzi,
Can you tell me if your stone looks white--as well as a stone that''s not Hearts and Arrows might look if it were a F or G colour? I heard that H & A stones look a lot brighter and whiter than others. Is this true? Does your stone also appear larger than its actual carat weight? Does it seem like it''s closer to a.85 or .90 stone? I''d appreciate your response very much. Thanks in advance.

Considering this is my subjective opinion, I''ll answer your questions.

. Yes, to me the stone looks white. I''m not sure how it compares to an F or G colored stone, because I don''t have one to compare it to. Compared to my J diamond, it looks white. But then again, I never thought my J looked "yellow". The J somehow looks warmer to me. The biggest difference I can tell is looking through the pavillion. Both face up pretty white to my eyes. I can see a tinge of color in the J stone, but no tinge of color on the H. Brightness is something that I can see a difference in. To me, brightness is different than color. The H&A stone seems to sparkle in a different way. My non hearts and arrows J colored stone kind of flickers, and added to the warmth of color it reminds me of the flame on a candle. My H colored H&A stone has more of a glittery sparkle...think disco ball. Both look completely different to me, and I actually love both looks. So I guess my mood will determine which diamond I choose to wear at any given time.

Now, about size. My old J diamond is a .75 carat diamond. To me, it faces up smaller than the H&A which is .743 carats. My friend has a 1 carat diamond which looks to be deeply cut, so I don''t think it''s an ideal cut. My .743 looks pretty close in size to her 1 carat. I need to compare mine to my sister''s 1 carat...I think hers is an ideal cut. I will be seeing her in a couple of weeks, so I can let you know how they compare if you like. I''m taking my ideal scope thing with me to have a look at her diamond with it...just to see what (if any) her arrows look like...

.

This weekend if I get to the mall, I''m planning to do a little "window shopping" at some of the jewelry stores. I''m going to see if they have any stones higher in color than an H to compare mine with. I also am anxious to see if anyone carries ideal cut stones. Last time I checked, none of the stores at the mall had any. I will let you know what I find out. Hope this helps.

Suzi,,
Thanks so much for your in depth answers to my questions. I''m actually also thinking of getting a H & A stone from White Flash. At first I wanted one to look like a .90 ct one I saw at Tiffany''s. Through reading many people''s comments about WH and their awesome stones, I''m leaning towards them a lot more now. I think that I can probably save some money if I buy a .75 or so size stone from WF and it''ll still look like a .90 ct from Tiffany''s! Tiffany''s H stones look completely white so I believe you when you say that yours does too. Please do keep us updated as to what you will find out from looking around at the mall stores soon. I have seen one or two places where they sell ideal cut stones(they are beautiful) and I imagine that your H & A stone will look even better!

Suzi,

Congratulations on your recent upgrade.
If it is not too much trouble, can you post a picture of your old stone next to your WF?
I keep reading on here about how brilliant, vibrant and whiter the WF stones are than most non-ideal.
Just curious as to how much difference the ideal cut has on the overall appearance of a diamond.
I do not have the luxury of owning an ideal cut stone and am wary of buying a stone over the internet (sight unseen).

Thanks a bunch.

Ok, here are some pics. I''m not a very good photographer, so please take that into consideration! I also don''t know how to make a photo collage, so I''ll be posting them separately.

First one. H&A .743 H color SI2 in yellow gold on the left, .75 J color VS2 on the right.

Next...same thing, H on the left, J on the right.

Last one, same drill. I''ll try to get some better pictures tomorrow if the sun comes out. I take much better pictures in the sunlight than I do under lightbulbs at nite!

And this is for you, jellybean...my new ring with my eternity band.

HOLY COW, this is such a great example of why CUT matters. To my eyes the SI2 looks cleaner than your VS2. I love the pic with your eternity band. What a beautiful new set you have...

Gorgeous!!!

what a great comparison shot

Suzi,

Thanks so much for the pictures. Perhaps both stones are well cut because I do not see much difference between the two.
They are equally lovely to say the least. Love the tulip setitng.

Thanks again for your help.

Very pretty ring Suzi! I think you accomplished your goals perfectly with the unique setting...

Enjoy!

"I think that I can probably save some money if I buy a .75 or so size stone from WF and it'll still look like a .90 ct from Tiffany's!"

Ducky, I wanted to chime in and note that supposedly Tiffany diamonds are pretty well-cut, or that is what we hear anyway....so a .75 ideal WF stone should look similar to a .75 ideal Tiffany stone if specs are similar.

Where the .75c WF stone would look bigger than another .75c stone would be if it was compared to a mediocre or poor cut stone....aka a deeper 1c which may look more like a .80c or similar, like sjz noted about her friend's ring.

So a .75c WF may not necessarily look as big as a .90c Tiffany, it really depends on the cut of the stones you are comparing, and if you are comparing ideals to ideals, they will probably look very similar.

Just don't want you to be disappointed! It's important to compare mm of the stones diameter when you are talking 'looks' and size since sometimes carat weight is misleading.

Hi Mara,
Thanks for your input regarding the Tiffany and WF stones. I know that Tiffany sells top quality stones but not all of them are in the Hearts and Arrows range. That''s why I suspect that if I were to get a H & A stone, it may appear larger than its actual size. I could be wrong about this though.

What a beauty!
